  • 16 May 2019 in Senate: I am well informed that yesterday, Members of Parliament (MPs) including the Senator had a meeting with the Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang‘i and the security team. The Cabinet Secretary has gone there today. view
  • 16 May 2019 in Senate: In March, there was a similar issue of six watchmen who were killed at a place called Kilingili in Vihiga County. There have been other killings in former western province. For those of us who know the former Western Province well, there was a gang in 1970‘s that was called Angola-Msumbiji that used to terrorise residents in Vihiga and Kakamega. We are not sure if it is related but we are taking it extremely seriously and we will report back to this House at the soonest available opportunity. view

  • 15 May 2019 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. view
  • 15 May 2019 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, just for clarity purposes, in the earlier Statement that includes issues of environmental degradation, I support what Sen. (Eng.) • 15 May 2019 in Senate: saying. It is really urgent. Just today for instance, 25 factories have been closed because of discharging effluent into Nairobi River. However, in two weeks‟ time, you will find them up and running again after they have gone to see certain people. It is a serious issue, if you look at what is going on in Nairobi, Narok and many other counties. Mr. Speaker, Sir, if you can really impress upon that Committee to summon NEMA, the KPC and all of these other agencies because we are tired of it. Our children are now getting sick in Nairobi and many ... view
  • 15 May 2019 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I am quite flabbergasted at how the Vice Chairperson of a committee can express how one-track minded they will be on this issue. We can chew gum and walk and talk. When they look at this matter, they can as well address all matters attendant to the effect on the environment. They can multi- task and deal with all the issues because it is possible. view
  • 15 May 2019 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I fully associate myself with the comments made by my colleagues. When Prof. Magoha, my former Vice Chancellor, got into the Ministry of Education, we had a lot of hope and we still have a lot of hope. He needs to consider this matter. We have policy-makers in this country who look at the theory but fail to look at the reaction of the parents and the young people who go through school. We are not encouraging students to get D+ or Ds, instead, we want this country to guarantee the students a future no matter what ... view
  • 11 Apr 2019 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I really wanted to comment on the earlier one but I will move to mine. Pursuant to Standing Order 47(1), I rise to make a statement on the protection of rights and welfare of Uber and other hailing cabs drivers. There have been numerous complaints from drivers operating in this sector in terms of their welfare and the losses they are making. It is high time this House looked keenly and very seriously at these issues because some of these drivers are losing their lives while others are going into depression and the country is not ... view
  • 11 Apr 2019 in Senate: being subjected to ceaseless toil under conditions that are injurious to their health and pose a danger to the public at large. Majority of these drivers have taken loans to finance their vehicles and are left with no option but to work for long unsafe hours in order to be able to service the loans and at least feed their families. This has led to an increase in the number of road accidents on our roads. Those who have defaulted have had their vehicles auctioned and thus, have been rendered jobless. One week ago, it was reported in the dailies ... view
