  • 18 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I was the one who was harassing hon. Wanjiku because I thought that she was only looking for women hon. Members in this House to second the Motion on the Bill. We are ready to do it as men. view
  • 18 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, having said that, I want to congratulate the hon. Member because these are some of the few things that we usually overlook in our society and for an hon. Member to dig in and look for such discrimination in our law, it is commendable. I hope today people with disabilities across our country can hear hon. (Ms.) Muia loud and clear because I think she has gone out of the way to find a way to help them. view
  • 18 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: We all come from communities in different parts of our country and one thing that is for sure is that there is somebody disabled; there is a role model somewhere that you admire with the kind of disability they have and their achievements in life. I am a proud person that in my high school I had two blind teachers and my performance in those subjects was so good. I think I did better in the two subjects that I was taught by the two blind teachers than any other subjects in my KCSE. I want to give credit to ... view
  • 18 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: I would like to ask hon. (Ms.) Muia that maybe at some point she can bring a Bill that will create incentives for private businesses that create avenues for people with disabilities to access different services in the country. When I was in the USA for several years undertaking my studies, I found every single building in America had access for disabled people. It is unfortunate that if today you walk around Nairobi, there are very few, if any, buildings that offer good access for people with disabilities. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. ... view

  • 10 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. Under Article 221 of our Constitution, one of the requirements of the budget process is for the Budget and Appropriations Committee of Parliament to do public hearings across our country. This year, we went to nine counties and one of them was the great county of Samburu. I want to register my appreciation, both to the Parliamentary Committee and particularly to those Members who went to Samburu. This is one of the things that are very important. I also really appreciate that this House, represented by this Committee, can visit Samburu, a place that has never ... view
  • 10 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: interest rates will affect everybody and every constituency in this country. Every single person in this House will have some benefits in their constituencies because of low borrowing interest rates. view
  • 10 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, getting that money into this country will also strengthen the shilling. That is because we will have dollars flowing into our country and our monetary policy will be strengthened. It is also important to know that this will also provide us with an opportunity to be players in the international global markets. view
  • 10 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, finally, during the budget-making process, we realised that there are some excesses and extravagancies within some of our departments. The first one in question is the Judiciary. The Judiciary, at one point, allocated about Kshs800 million just to build a court room in Turkana and Kshs700 million to build one in Bomet. I am a very good friend of the Speaker of the County Assembly of Samburu and I am a very good friend of the Governor of Samburu. I have seen what they are doing in building the county headquarters and the county assembly. They are spending ... view
