  • 26 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, all over the world, law enforcement officials are actually confronted with similar situations. However, I do not understand why the Assistant Minister feels that live bullets should have been used, while it is obvious that things like rubber bullets and tear gas could, as well, have done the same job! Why does he think it is important for the police to use live bullets in this country? September 26, 2007 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 4151 view
  • 13 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Health:- (a) whether he is aware that there is a serious shortage of housing for doctors, nurses and other health workers throughout the country; and, (b) what plans he has to ensure that these essential workers are adequately housed within close proximity to health facilities. view
  • 13 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am shocked to hear that the Assistant Minister is not aware that there is a serious shortage of accommodation for doctors and nurses. I want to inform him that there is, indeed, a very serious shortage. However, in any case, could he tell us how many of these doctors and nurses are housed by the Government? Secondly, could he tell us how many of them are actually dependent on their own personal and rented houses? view
  • 13 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, as much as the Assistant Minister is telling us that house allowance is being paid, could he also assure this House that, as a matter of long term planning, the Government will actually provide proper housing for doctors and not allow them to stay in the shopping centres around this country? view
  • 12 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Agriculture when he will send tractors to Kilifi District as promised during the field day at Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI), Mtwapa, on 19th September, 2006. view
  • 12 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, this Government has got a habit of giving promises that it does not intend to keep. The Assistant Minister said on that particular day that there were so many under-utilised tractors across the country and that he would take stock of those tractors, maintain them and send them to Coast Province, so that farmers would be able to use them. Is he now telling us that these two tractors are part of that consignment or are these different ones? view
  • 12 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, Kilifi District is a very large district. We have very high potential areas. One of them, is Chonyi Division where there is a very high yield of maize every year. Those people actually need tractors. Could the Assistant Minister assure this House that these tractors that he intends to send will be equitably distributed and that special preference will be given to high potential areas of the district? view
  • 12 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Minister has talked about a task force. Could he, for the sake of transparency, lay on the Table of the House the list of all the freedom fighters who have been identified by the Government, so that this House could actually approve or endorse it? That way, we will not have the equivalent of the so-called Gen. Mathenge being included in the list of heroes of this country. view
  • 11 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Is it in order for the Assistant Minister to suggest that they will be in office next year, when we know very well that they are almost on their way out? view
  • 30 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the shortage of nurses has been a perennial problem over the last four years. Could Mr. Awori tell us whether the problem is lack of trained personnel or it is the lack of money from the Government to employ qualified nurses in our health facilities? view
