• 16 Oct 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) I am aware that the Cheptiret-Moi University Road is in a deplorable condition. (b) The road has been earmarked for routine maintenance this Financial Year 2007/2008 and Kshs3 million has been issued on emergency basis to the Provincial Roads Engineer, North Rift, for the repair of the Cheptiret-Kesses Road. view
• 16 Oct 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I will repeat the answer. (a) I am aware that the Cheptiret-Moi University is in a deplorable condition. (b) The road has been earmarked for routine maintenance this financial year. Therefore, Kshs3 million has been issued on emergency basis to the Provincial Roads Engineer, North Rift, for the repair of the road. The unpaved section of Road D305; Kesses-Lessos, is currently being rehabilitated at a cost of Kshs11.9 million under the African Development Bank funded Roads 2000 Project. view
• 16 Oct 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Kshs3 million will basically be restricted to the tarmacked section of the road. With regard to the contractor who was awarded the contract to repair the road under the Roads 2000 Maintenance Programme, he has done about half the work. I will check to find out exactly why he has been slow. If there is no adequate reason for him being slow, then we will have to get another contractor. view
• 16 Oct 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, what the hon. Member has said is true. The section between Cheptiret and Kesses is tarmacked, but is in deplorable condition. The section from Kesses to Moi University is tarmacked, but it is also in bad condition. However, the Ministry is designing the section between Kesses and Lessos. We want to upgrade the whole section to bitumen standards. Currently, design work is going on, on the 12.4 kilometre section. Once the design is completed, we can do the new road on the 12.4 kilometres and total rehabilitation on the other section. view
• 16 Oct 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Minister said there would be repairs on emergency basis. The contractor has not been able to work quickly because of the amount of rainfall that has been falling in that area. However, the Provincial Roads Engineer cannot start work until we send some emergency money to him. In my answer, I said that we have sent Kshs3 million. However, I would not be able to know how much money we have sent for the other roads. view

(a) I am aware that some sections of the Ol'Kalou to Dundori Road were impassable during the last rainy season in the months of July, August and parts of September. (b) The contractor has been instructed to ensure that the whole road is maintained ahead of works. (c) The upgrading of the road between Njabini and Dundori, through Ol'Kalou, to bitumen standard commenced on 15th March, 2007. • 4 Oct 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I accept the observation of the hon. Member that no work has been done between Dundori and Ol Kalou. However, there are some other sections where work has been done. This road is about 100 kilometres. It has been divided into three sections to ease construction work. Section one, is between Ol Kalou and Dundori. Section Two, is between Ol Kalou and Mawingo which is 39.5 kilometres. The third section is between Mawingo and Njabini. • 4 Oct 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I agree that some sections between Nairobi and Thika are full of potholes. The contractor has been advised to repair those sections of the road ahead of works where he is not working. He said he will do so. He had some problems with acquisition of materials, but now I think that has been overcome. view
• 4 Oct 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, as I said, the contractor is being advised as per the requirements of the contract to repair the road ahead of works. He will move to section one of the October 4, 2007 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 4347 road between Ol Kalou and Dundori, so that he can make that road passable. The hon. Member must understand that 100 kilometres is a very long stretch of road. The contractor is doing his best at the moment. view
