  • 16 Feb 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. It is unfortunate for a Member to start castigating a Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security whom we know has been working tirelessly to resolve conflicts that surround us in this country, not only in Tiaty, but also in Marsabit and other places. Our Committee has been working tirelessly. Although the Chairman may not have been in those areas, the Committee is composed of people who have verse knowledge in the region. Personally, I have been handling conflicts in this region for the last 20 years. Tiaty and Kapedo are well known ... view
  • 22 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I also want to join my colleagues in condoling with the family of Hon. Lusweti. I did not know him much but for the few times we interacted, I saw a gentleman who had no boundaries of politics; a gentleman who had no tribal boundaries; a gentleman you could sit down with and talk like Kenyans and not people from different parts of this country. For that reason, I really miss him as a person from whom I borrowed a lot whenever we sat down to have a cup of tea. I also want to join ... view
  • 22 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. At the outset, it is good for Kenyans out there to know that we did not come for this Special Sitting to increase taxes but rather, to revert to what was passed by this House in March this year. I want to commend the Government. Coronavirus was first reported in the country in February and by March, the Government had moved very fast to look at measures that would reduce the pressure and impact that came with the pandemic. That was really good. The relief did not come to address it as such, but ... view
  • 3 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. These are two different petitions that have been brought forward by people with grievances – people who think the land was theirs and people who may have bought it. We are talking about people who may have bought land. The word “grabbing” has occasionally been misused. We know that people have given money for that land. Therefore, even as the Committee looks at the two petitions, they must bear in mind that there are people who paid for that land. They have been chased away. I know some people who have been chased away in the ... view
  • 3 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. This is my third approach to have the problems in Mwea resolved. It is a clear indicator of the urgency of the problem. I would like to ask the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Co- operatives the following Question: - (i) Could the Cabinet Secretary explain the status of utilisation of Kshs200 million which was allocated for the purchase of rice for strategic reserves in the Financial Year 2019/20 Budget, through the Strategic Food Reserve Trust Fund? (ii) When will the Government start purchasing rice from farmers at the Mwea Irrigation Scheme for Strategic ... view
  • 1 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Chair. I really want to support the amendment by Hon. Wanga. Hon. Chair, this is in line with what we want for our youth. We do acknowledge that when our youth are training, they do not have money to register or even pay The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor. view
  • 1 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: their loans. That is why we are talking about a tax holiday for our youth. This is in line with what BBI is proposing and I think we really need to support it. view
  • 1 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I congratulate the Chair of the Departmental Committee on Agriculture and Livestock for having come up with this amendment. The issue of protecting our farmers is very important. We are facing those challenges in other areas. For example, importers of rice keep bringing in cheap rice. It is high time we levied imported products by 100 per cent or even more, so that we prevent importation of goods that can be produced in our country. Thank you. view
  • 24 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I am sorry to rise again to speak to an issue that I raised last week relating to challenges facing the rice industry in Mwea. You directed that the Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Trade, Industry and Cooperatives invites the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) to come and discuss that issue in my presence. I am worried that we are likely to proceed on recess without a meeting. I have not been able to get the Chairman of the Committee. I checked with the Leader of the Majority Party but he did not have ... view
  • 24 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, the answer is good but I do not know what he means that he will link me up with the Chair. This matter was discussed here and it is on the Hansard . They are aware of the challenges. I would be here but I am not sure about the linkage. The issue was to get the NCPB to come and address the issue. view
