  • 30 Oct 2013 in Senate: We visited Matongo Polytechnic, where we found a few issues here and there. The positive thing is that the polytechnic has 604 students, and it is still supported by the church and the community there. One challenge we found in this polytechnic is that the students have to take exams away from the school because of lack of proper planning and infrastructure; and also lack of financial support. The chairman of the school informed the committee that they have not been receiving enough funds from the national Government and, thus, they are not able to employ enough teachers. If five students bring five tins of unga, this can feed many other students because if this child was at home, he or she would not have gone hungry.
