  • 8 Sep 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, thank you for giving me the chance to support this Bill. It is really important that this House approves the Appropriations Bill to enable the Government to deliver services to wananchi . I want to plead with the Government on Vote D19 concerning the Ministry of Livestock Development, that since the livestock growing areas of northern Kenya have been facing drought but the rain season is about to start, there is a likelihood that livestock diseases will come up. As it has been reported, PPR has been spotted in some areas--- view

  • 8 Sep 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, we passed a Procedural Motion that we will be here until the end of business on the Order Paper. Having taken into account the interest of other hon. Members, I want to take two minutes on Vote D01 – Provincial Administration and Internal Security and the importance of buying police vehicles. There is also the Vote D06 – Ministry of State for Planning, National Development and Vision 2030. As much as CDF has been earmarked, it is also good that the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance takes into account the issue of the ... view

  • 7 Sep 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) The total surface area covered by Turkwell Gorge Dam is 66 square kilometres; approximately 7,000 hectares. (b) The Government, through the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) compensated the people who were displaced and lost grazing land within the dam reservoir area and those in respect of the way leaves under Turkwel - that is the Lessos Power Line - a total amount of Kshs11 million and not Kshs520 million as indicated. So, that is a correction. (c) As for the two centres namely Kolopot and Lochokei, which were gold prospecting centers ... view
  • 7 Sep 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I agree that 66 square kilometres is a very vast land, but not all of it was occupied by the individuals. This compensation was done between 1991 and 1993 and 847 households were the ones who were compensated because the land was trust land under the County Council of Pokot and just small portions were occupied by the families. That is why Kshs11 million was given to the few- -- view
  • 7 Sep 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, if my good friend Mr. Litole would be a little bit patient and listen, I was going to give the information. This was trust land under the County Council of Pokot and that is why Kshs19 million went to the county council. The area that was occupied by 847 households was given Kshs11 million. That amount did not just come out of the blue; a valuation was done and it was found that that was the equivalent of the activities that were taking place at that time. Under the grazing land which was under the county ... view
  • 7 Sep 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, that is a very good question. I do not have the report at the moment but I know that that is what originated the whole agreement and the whole settlement. If that is required, I can provide it. view
