  • 16 May 2019 in Senate: President look at this constitutional provision. It is a right. It is no longer business as usual when we do not have things in place. I am aware that there are court decisions on this; that, you must comply with this constitutional provision. In fact, the court has made several rulings on it yet nobody seems to put into effect what these courts have said about us complying with our Constitution. We came up with this constitutional provision of having this two-third gender rule because of the history of this country. It is also because we wish well for this ... view
  • 16 May 2019 in Senate: We also have a youth league which has youthful women. We have a national league office, ward league, polling station league, constituency and county leagues. We have two good roads of leadership within the party. Our National Executive Council complies with the two-third gender rule. The other political parties should have structures which should comply with the two-third gender rule for us to lead by example. We call upon the appointing authorities to do the same. I applaud my sister for coming up with this Motion because women are the backbone of the economy of this country. They are ones ... view

  • 15 May 2019 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity. It is sad that we are talking about students not going to school when we have young students in the gallery. What message are we sending to these students? Are we telling them that they have no hope if they do not get a mean grade of A in the exams? Discontinuing over 3,000 students is something that calls for urgent attention and serious action against the people who have perpetrated it. I find that act to be discriminatory. Discontinuing those students means that one is targeting areas that do ... view
  • 15 May 2019 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, thank you for giving me the opportunity to support this Report prepared by the team that was led by Sen. Ndwiga. I want to thank them for tabling it very fast. This is the first of the mediation reports that have been brought back to this House after being sent to the Mediation Committee. They did it in a very short time because I know that they took time during the recess period to work when others were away. We thank them for the commitment and coming out The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is ... view
  • 15 May 2019 in Senate: strongly. This is the way to go between the Senate and the National Assembly. I wish we could just mediate and agree on a lot of these things. Madam Temporary Speaker, it is sad to think that the National Assembly keeps on talking about the Senate while we here also keep talking about them. If we do not agree on these Bills, the person who will suffer is the citizen down there. Any time that matters have to go for mediation, it holds the services that the people we represent should be receiving. I thank the Committee for expediting this ... view
