being referred to as "casino capitalism", because of the bail out of the US$700 billion of the United States of America (USA) economy, will not catch up with us. I think it is a matter that the Government itself is watching; I am sure that all our people are on high alert. I understand that India has now been affected. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) The available capacity of prisons countrywide is 16,886 inmates. (b) The population of prisoners as at 30th May, 2008, is 47,585. (c) My Ministry is taking the following steps to decongest our prisons:- (i) Building of new prisons. Over the last two years, the Ministry has constructed the following new prisons: Rachuonyo, Mwingi, Vihiga, Nyamira, Migori and Makueni.
