It is true we have been on recess. I do not see a request of one week as being too unreasonable in the circumstance if that is what the ruling of the Speaker was. The Senate Minority Leader who had sought for Statements (e) and (f) had indicated that he will be away and asked that we defer them. That is understandable. We can take the view that a Statement once sought is the property of the House unless the Senator seeking the Statement requests that it be deferred because he or she is absent. If he fails to do so, then the Statement should be issued notwithstanding the absence of the Senator because ... view
