  • 28 May 2025 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, the Senate Minority Leader is insisting that I should go to the Dispatch Box. Thank you for your concern. Amen! Madam Temporary Speaker, today, I feel honoured by this Petition and how my colleagues have contributed. This is a Petition that I read here and it was directed to the Committee on Health where I am Member to investigate. My colleagues have spoken with so much passion about it such that I feel overwhelmed. I could feel the pain. You can imagine what I went through when I was talking to Mama Annita. Mama Annita came to ... view

  • 28 May 2025 in Senate: thoracotomy. Forgive my pronunciation because those are foreign words to me. I know Dr. Khalwale understands them well. Those procedures performed to remove the injected foreign bodies were not done properly. It could be that that mess was messy such that the medical equipment was non-functional. There is a time I went to the KNH. Out of about 45 dialysis machines, only 20 were working but about 25 were not. They told us that all of them were not working, yet people are being paid for medical equipment. Madam Temporary Speaker, I brought a Statement here on medical equipment but ... view

  • 28 May 2025 in Senate: Looking at what Mama Annita went through, we also need to encourage hospitals to engage in medical processes with families and patients who have experience in adverse outcomes, ensuring that these processes are facilitated by neutral third parties to promote fairness and transparency. Madam Temporary Speaker, Mama Annita was quite frustrated. The KMPDC and MTRH frustrated this lady. Imagine, you are having the same people who are mediating the same issues. So, I feel strongly that we should have had the third-party mediators on such cases. Madam Temporary Speaker, I also feel that continuous quality improvement practices with such cases ... view
  • 8 May 2025 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. My first Statement is regarding the implementation of the Senate resolution on the promotion of mental health facilities for mothers. I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.53(1) to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on Health on a matter of national concern regarding the status of implementation of the Senate resolution on the promotion of mental health facilities for mothers. World Mental Health Day is commemorated annually on 7th May and seeks to raise awareness of mental health challenges that occur during the perinatal period, defined as time from pregnancy through to two years ... view
  • 8 May 2025 in Senate: bonding and family well-being, yet, due to stigma and systematic gaps in our health systems, these issues then go undiagnosed and untreated. In the Statement, the Committee should address the following- (1) Apprise the Senate on the status of implementation of the Senate resolution on the Motion, promotion of the mental health facilities for mothers who have just given birth and are experiencing mental health issues, which was adopted by the House on 10th November, 2022. (2) Plans and activities being undertaken by the Ministry of Health and county governments to commemorate World Maternal Mental Health Day and promote public ... view
  • 7 May 2025 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. First, I would like to appreciate my two colleagues, Sen. Ojienda and Sen. Chimera, for this Bill. It is a good one and looking at the overview, it is meant to amend the Act, Cap.223, by establishing County Sports Academies and providing legal protections for minors in sports Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, looking at Section 2, key provisions and the relevance of County Sports Academies, Sections 38(a) to 38(m), the provision mandates each county to establish at least one sports academy, with structured training programmes, technical staff and linkages to local communities and international ... view
  • 7 May 2025 in Senate: I would like another amendment on education guarantees as cited in 54(b). The minors must have access to basic education even in residential academies. The problem is the young athletes sometimes drop out of school hoping for trials abroad. Therefore, the impact would be to prevent exploitation and ensure fallback options. Number three is contractual protection, as cited in 54(c) to 54(e). These contracts, under the provision, involve minors and must be signed by guardians and only valid from age 17. Agents must be accredited. In such cases, there are scam cases from fake international trial offers conning athletes. The ... view
  • 7 May 2025 in Senate: . So, we had time to socialize. However, looking at these young people nowadays, they hardly have time, they only have time for their phones. So, I feel strongly that with such, it will give them time to discover themselves. I am one of those who found myself in sports quite early and I played basketball. I even found myself playing for the Kenya basketball team. Now I am the most valuable player in the Senate, playing basketball. Not in the Senate actually, playing basketball. So, I feel seriously that this talent should be nurtured early enough and I started ... view
