• 20 Apr 2023 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to support this very important Statement, that has been raised in terms of discrimination of services offered by NHIF to its members. In Kakamega County, the levels of fluoride in water is of great concern. In fact, if you look at most people in not only Kakamega County but also part of Narok County, their teeth are yellow because of the excess fluoride content in water. view

It is above international standards. I am a member of the Standing Committee on Health, and I hope that when we shall look at this, we shall dig deeper. I hope that the Committee can investigate further on whether the Ministry of Health (MoH) and, to a great extent, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) has a topographic details on the metals that exist underneath which should concern this country. I would like to inform the Chairperson of the County Public Investments Committee (CPIC) that it is a fact that the high levels of minerals in Kakamega County is something that should concern this country especially when it comes to the issue of water. This water ends up discoloring our teeth such that NHIF is seeing it as a huge burden to cover.
