Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. The Physiotherapists Bill comes at a time when the country is experiencing an upsurge of complications and conditions that we all know. There are issues of hypertension, paralysis, stroke and, I know for some of us who have been in hospitals, we appreciate that we have a good number of patients at home who are suffering because of lack of physiotherapy. We have a good number of complications in our homes, where there are people suffering from wounds that are associated with hypertension and so on. We also have diseases like cancer and retarded ...

The Physiotherapists Bill is also coming at a time when we are registering high rates of accidents. In the past one year, over 3,000 Kenyans who lost their lives. Some of them ultimately require physiotherapy during rehabilitation. I note the Bill is also coming at a time when the country is experiencing a lot of insecurity, especially on issues of terrorism and others. I know some of our colleagues have suffered from this and most of us, who are here, have also suffered. We require physiotherapy to help us.

This Bill aims to provide for the establishment, composition and functions of the Physiotherapy Council of Kenya. This Council will actually be empowered to establish the Physiotherapist Council of Kenya, which is generally to supervise and control the training and practice of physiotherapy in Kenya.
