  • 20 Feb 2019 in Senate: seriousness of the fact that they have no law to protect the farmers and nobody is paying attention to them. We really hope that county governments will handle this more seriously than it has been. One of the things that confused the report that came from the agencies that came before the Committee was the accuracy of the data. For example, they got something from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) which is different from Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and also different from the Cabinet Secretary of Agriculture and Irrigation. So, there is no way in which a person can tell ... view
  • 20 Feb 2019 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am winding up. The way farmers have been handled this year is very bad. They are told to carry their own bags because they cannot aggregate. The large-scale farmers have also been denied the opportunity and can only take their 400 bags which is four lorries. The small-scale farmers are the victims of all these. • 19 Feb 2019 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, the reason I am bringing these amendments even as we delve into the Report itself is the fact that we have received minutes of what transpired both for the gazette notices and some of the most sweeping decisions that this Committee did. We thought that singling out the two would leave out the Chair of the Committee, who was the Head of Public Service and the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution, who were deeply involved in this. To be able to capture the recommendations of the Committee, we found that--- view
  • 19 Feb 2019 in Senate: It became very important that we capture all the minutes and the sweeping recommendations that they made. To capture all that, it was important to take into account the Food Security Committee. Members will be able to see that in the documents that they have and the minutes in the annexures that they have been given. view
  • 19 Feb 2019 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, having said that, on 8th August, 2018, the Senate passed a Motion to establish the Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the maize situation in the country.
