  • 23 Jun 2020 in Senate: Pursuant to Standing Order No.47 (1), I wish to make the following Statement regarding the dehumanization of one Ms. Mercy Cherono who was dragged on the pathway by a police officer in Olenguruone, Nakuru County. Mr. Speaker, Sir, it was traumatic to watch a video clip showing Ms. Cherono tied on a rope and being dragged by a motorbike. While sympathizing with Ms. Cherono, I also applaud her because when I watched her on television, I saw a courageous young woman who had experienced a barbaric and inhuman act but she survived. It was beyond comprehension that the police officer ... view
  • 23 Jun 2020 in Senate: Madam Deputy Speaker, in the morning session, we had a problem with my fellow Senator here. I know that a few days ago, he had a problem, and I think he has recovered. He has just mentioned that he does not know if Sen. (Eng.) Mahamud is still the Chairperson or not. I do not think if that is the concern. I know that Sen. (Eng.) Mahamud is still our Chairperson of the Committee on Finance and Budget. If he is not, then we should not prompt this matter. We just need to leave it, so that we continue the ... view
  • 23 Jun 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, thank you. I want to thank Sen. Sakaja for the updates. We have gotten a lot of input on the same. However, I request that when they invite the Cabinet Secretary (CS) on the issue of Dr. Lutomia to kindly let me know so that I can participate through zoom because I have interest in that issue. view
  • 23 Jun 2020 in Senate: Madam Deputy Speaker, the Government is in possession of a lot of information regarding Kenyans. The Registrar of Persons has a database that contains everyone’s information. Kenyans should not be asked to pay for a certificate of good conduct. Information should be readily available even on the dead. Information on all The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 23 Jun 2020 in Senate: Kenyans should be synchronized and made readily available at no cost. The Government has details concerning all registered adults in this country. They can easily locate me if they wanted. I wonder what happened to the personal information we gave when we registered for Huduma numbers that we are yet to receive. In the interest of time, I beg to support the Statement and urge Government agencies to stop seeking more information from us at a cost. I thank you. view
  • 9 Jun 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to add my voice to the Statement that Sen. Were has read on behalf of Sen. Beth Mugo. Just like my colleagues have said, it is a sad story, and it reminds me of September, 2015 when I was in the same situation and lost my niece. The poor in Kenya are suffering and the healthcare system has broken down. Despite the spirited efforts by this family to raise enough money--- M.P. Shah Hospital could not have stopped functioning because of Kshs500,000 that was required as a deposit for them ... view
  • 9 Jun 2020 in Senate: When this Statement comes to the Committee on Health that I sit in, we will look into the matter. Let us put our minds together considering the fact that many have contributed and many are wishing to contribute, so that as much as we rebuke this act, we get to the root cause of it. Our healthcare system should not be focused on money-making or profit, but rather have facilities that support our people to achieve the lifestyles and health status that they need. Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity. I support the Statement, and we ... view
  • 2 Jun 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to congratulate Sen. (Prof.) Kamar. A woman with a voice is a woman with definition. I am talking about Sen. (Prof.) Kamar’s election. I knew her from the time she was in the Ministry of Education, where she served Kenyans with a lot of commitment. I look at her and see a leader that I can emulate. I learn a lot from her. Currently, she is the patron of the Kenya Women Senators Association (KEWOSA), which she has steered to greater heights. She is also a Member of the Speaker’s ... view
  • 2 Jun 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I just want to ride on the Statement by Sen. Cherargei because I stay on the other side of the border. I know my people and his people are suffering. I want to echo the sentiment that he has said that the concerned security agencies need to move very fast so that they can silence those who are agitating to make the border porous. Madam Temporary Speaker, it is not only one side that has suffered the consequences. We are the people who are suffering most. Sen. Cherargei has taken the right path by bringing ... view
