  • 15 Jun 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker for this opportunity. This has been a wonderful experience for me. I have worked before in the Central Government, the private sector and also in parastatals. I thank God and the people of Butula for giving me an opportunity to serve them in the legislature. At times, I tell myself that one day I will get a chance to serve in the Judiciary in some position and I would have gone through the entire Government system. However, this has been a wonderful experience for me. I have done my best and I hope that the people ... view
  • 15 Jun 2017 in National Assembly: The other thing that I wish and pray for is that we have peaceful campaigns and election. This is our country and we still need it even after the 53 days that are remaining to the election. In this regard, a lot will be expected from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). It is not an easy job. • 14 Jun 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I rise to support this Bill and congratulate Hon. Sabina for bringing it up. This is a very progressive Bill. Although it is coming up now, what it is proposing is not an entirely new practice. I remember when I used to work in the plantation industry, through Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) with the employer and the trade unions, we used to have an arrangement where mothers were allowed to have ―nursing breaks‖ at intervals in order to breastfeed the young one. This is a very worthwhile investment. I hope that employers will support it ... view
  • 14 Jun 2017 in National Assembly: I am also encouraged that the Bill provides for the CS to make regulations that can enhance compliance with the objectives of the Bill. At least, we can start from where the Bill is now and keep improving the conditions and the regulations as we move on, as we also learn from other best practices internationally and as we learn from our mistakes and limitations. I think that is a very good provision. Finally, there is need for continuous civic and health education generally. This is because we may provide something like this for the working mothers but overall in ... view
