  • 2 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. I stand to oppose this Motion. First of all, one of the nominees, Madam Winfred Guchu, has been nominated to replace Prof. Christine Mango, whose term has expired. I was just wondering--- I have an interest in this because Prof. Mango comes from my constituency and is a very worthy predecessor of mine, because she represented my constituency before me. It has not been explained why Prof. Mango‘s term was not renewed. I know that she did a good job when she was there. In fact, at one time even before the Chief Justice was ... view
  • 2 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: I was looking at the profile of Mr. Bett. It looks as if he is already overloaded. If you look at page 10, we are told that he is currently a director of Rift Valley Bottlers, Image Registrars Limited, Save More Distributors Limited, Council Member, Kabarak University, Flora Ola Limited, Salt Lake Trading Limited among others. We do not know how many others. Why The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 2 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: should we be giving a position to somebody who already appears to be so overloaded with work? We should be looking for a person who will have time to devote to a job like this one; not a person who is already overloaded. view

  • 2 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: At page 7, it is pointed out that even the Committee felt that this list does not represent the face of Kenya. The Committee tells us that in future--- We do not want to be told about the future or tomorrow, which, as we know, never comes. If an anomaly has been detected or seen, deal with it now. Do not start telling us about the future or tomorrow, which we know will never come. Because of all these observations that I have made, I strongly oppose the nomination of these two candidates. view

  • 1 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to make my comments on the President‟s Address to the House. Going through the Speech, I will say that the President said a number of good things. But there are some things which are, perhaps, controversial. For me, the way I look at it is, there are some promises that have been made in this Speech for which we will hold him up to as we await implementation. I have noted what he said about the economy - that it is growing at 6 per cent. Unless the statistics ... view
  • 1 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: In this regard, I want to thank Kenya Power because I know there are some projects they are doing in my county and even in my sub-county. I encourage them to carry on with that. view
  • 1 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: Another area of infrastructure that I would like to mention is roads. The President has undertaken to ensure that we shall have an extra 10,000 kilometres of tarmac in the next five years. Just a quick arithmetic, that works out to 200 kilometres per county or close to 30 kilometres per constituency. I look forward to the implementation of that target. These are targets that we shall hold the Government to account. I file these Speeches and, at the end of the year, I take my red pen and start going through them point by point to see what the ... view
