Millie Grace Akoth Odhiambo Mabona

Millie first thought about becoming Mbita MP at age 13. The graduate of University of Nairobi School of Law has worked as a lawyer and women and children rights activist. The CRADLE is one of the MP’s dream come true. She founded the organization that promotes the rights of children since 1997. Millie has received the YWCA Democracy Award and the Eve woman of the year for human rights and gender. Her political tipping point came when she served as a delegate at the Bomas of Kenya, during the constitutional drafting process. • 24 Apr 2019 in National Assembly: Finally, I thank the Members who have said that we should stop attacking civil servants who cannot defend themselves. Mr. Kibicho cannot defend himself. We are the ones who go to churches. He does not go with us. Some of us were attacked. My security has been withdrawn three times and I have never complained. Yours has been withdrawn once and you are acting like a cry-baby. I want to repeat what I told one Member in a programme - man up! If your security is withdrawn, deal with it the way Millie Odhiambo did when hers was withdrawn. Let ... view
  • 24 Apr 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. Let us support the President. If there is one person who should not be talking like this, it is me. I have called the President names in the past, but I am here supporting him. You who was not attacking the President when I wanted Raila Amolo Odinga to be President are here now telling me the President is bad. It is hardly a year. I have joined you to support the agenda that you were pushing for the country. Do not turn around and tell us other things. We are supporting the President ... view
  • 23 Apr 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. I congratulate the two Members who have come back. I could see Hon. Duale is missing his ODM days. That is why he is introducing every Member with the words “ tialala, tibim” and all that. In my mother tongue, we say, “ awendo ok we yiere” . That is a special bird. I do not know what “ awendo” is in English. It can never leave… Is it a peacock? Whatever it is, it cannot leave behind its feathers. view
  • 23 Apr 2019 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I will try and say that there is a special bird that never leaves behind its feathers. So, when I cheer my good friend, Hon. David Ochieng’, it is because I am being a very true Luo and Suba who knows that it does not matter what attire I wear, I am still the daughter of awendo . So, I just want to tell Hon. Duale that I am truly in ODM. I welcome my brother, Hon. David Ochieng’, who worked exceptionally well. I also welcome my brother, Hon. Mawathe. They have seen what the “D” in ODM ... view

  • 2 Apr 2019 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. My concern is that I am privy to some of the proposed amendments and it appears that some of the activities done were in direct contravention of the Companies Act. This is something that the House must be informed of, so that as we debate the whole Report, we are informed and we make a decision based on complete information. So, I would urge that if the amendments are not ready, would it be in order to request that this matter be put aside, so that the amendments are included and ... view
  • 21 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. I wish to thank the Committee for this Report and also take this opportunity to support. In supporting, I want to say that I am very happy I sponsored the Treaty Making and Ratification Act, which has enabled Members of Parliament to know what treaties the country is getting involved in. Through Parliament, we are then able to know whether the treaties that the country is getting into further our interests as a country. I wish to indicate that our role as Members of Parliament under the Treaty Making ... view

  • 21 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: that does not conform to that, then we should be advising Kenya that we ratify, but with reservations. My challenge is that a lot of times the treaties pass and we use this as a conveyor belt. I have never seen a situation where we advise the relevant ministries that some of the treaties are not conforming. We really cannot say that all of them are conforming. The Chair did not speak to that and I would want that he really looks at it, so that if it does not conform in that sense, then we can advise the country ... view
