Millie Grace Akoth Odhiambo Mabona

Millie first thought about becoming Mbita MP at age 13. The graduate of University of Nairobi School of Law has worked as a lawyer and women and children rights activist. The CRADLE is one of the MP’s dream come true. She founded the organization that promotes the rights of children since 1997. Millie has received the YWCA Democracy Award and the Eve woman of the year for human rights and gender. Her political tipping point came when she served as a delegate at the Bomas of Kenya, during the constitutional drafting process. • 7 Jun 2017 in National Assembly: If we are dealing with the issue of national cohesion and healing, the President must start preaching that in his own actions. Once you decide to be president, whether people like you or not, you must serve everybody equally. Even in our own areas, we have places where people do not like ... view

  • 7 Jun 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I am trying to confirm whether it is covered in Clause 24. I was concerned why you would delete a clause that seeks protection for women and children when we know that they are the ones that suffer most in instances of refugees. Therefore, with your kind indulgence, could I please refer to Clause 24 then you give me an opportunity later. view

  • 7 Jun 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you. I was originally opposed to that. I have looked at the way Clause 3 is structured. Even if not for the same reasons that the Chairman gave, I will support him because when you say “refugee owner…” I have looked at the definition section The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 7 Jun 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I want to urge the Committee to reconsider their position because their argument is informed by the current situation. This means that the Committee seems to be legislating for a set of refugees in the country but, we are not legislating for those refugees. This is a Refugee Bill which will affect refugees of all times, whether in 2016, 2017 or 2089. We have many people from Tanzania, Somalia and Zambia who have had problems before and have sought refuge in Kenya. If we can say and predict as prophets that they shall never ... view
