Millie first thought about becoming Mbita MP at age 13. The graduate of University of Nairobi School of Law has worked as a lawyer and women and children rights activist. The CRADLE is one of the MP’s dream come true. She founded the organization that promotes the rights of children since 1997. Millie has received the YWCA Democracy Award and the Eve woman of the year for human rights and gender. Her political tipping point came when she served as a delegate at the Bomas of Kenya, during the constitutional drafting process. ODM party nominated her to Parliament 2008 and she clinched the Mbita seat in the 2013 election.

So, can he substantiate and clarify whether there are, indeed, Members who are trying to extort money from companies? We are here to legislate and not to be paid money to legislate.

Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I want to thank the Mover for bringing this Bill to the House. I would very reluctantly support this Bill, which is a bit strange. The reason is that we have been very busy with campaigns. Therefore, I have not had occasion to look at it critically, but I have seen that there is a fundamental change in the architecture of the Bill, and in the principles surrounding it. I was part of the delegates at the Bomas of Kenya. One of the issues that derailed the Bomas process at ...

girlfriends because even us we can nominate boyfriends. However, that is not the reason. I would like to say that they would also put relatives on those lists. That is why sometimes I get embarrassed when I hear Members referring to the case of Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka’s son, who was nominated to join the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). Sitting Members of this House, and not members from Mars, have also nominated their own relatives to sit in some assemblies. ...

Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I want to congratulate Hon. Nassir for bringing this Bill. I want to say from the outset that it is a very good Bill. For those of us who have worked in the human rights sector, we have been accused of not taking into account interests of the police; that we tend to focus a lot on civilians, at the expense of the police. That is not necessarily true. We are concerned with the civilians as much as we are concerned with the police. It is because our concern is ...

it would help in such instances. We should provide timelines for compensation so that we do not have cases where people move back and forth trying to get compensation. The only challenge I have with this Bill is where it provides that a member of the Service may designate a person who shall be a beneficiary, and who may change the name of such a person at any time. If you look at this on the face of it, you will find that it does not look like a problematic clause but in reality, it may clash with the law ...

Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I want to join hands with the Members who have said that when we go to this period of recess, we preach peace. But it is unfortunate that as we are talking about peace, we are the ones fermenting negativity.
