Millie first thought about becoming Mbita MP at age 13. The graduate of University of Nairobi School of Law has worked as a lawyer and women and children rights activist. The CRADLE is one of the MP’s dream come true. She founded the organization that promotes the rights of children since 1997. Millie has received the YWCA Democracy Award and the Eve woman of the year for human rights and gender. Her political tipping point came when she served as a delegate at the Bomas of Kenya, during the constitutional drafting process. ODM party nominated her to Parliament 2008 and she clinched the Mbita seat in the 2013 election.

Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I would be very hesitant in supporting this Bill in its current frame. I can see it is very futuristic because it looks at an ideal society where we have very few poor people, an effective Government which is properly structured and functional and in that futurist society there will be no need for fundraisers.

I am sure the Member who represents the county of Homa Bay, Hon. Gladys will tell you the same. We have a very high mortality rate. I am just talking about funerals; it is not realistic what we are providing here. On the other hand, we are also faced with another challenge, sometimes I am called for 15 fundraisings in one weekend and the next weekend I have one ...
