Millie Grace Akoth Odhiambo Mabona

Millie first thought about becoming Mbita MP at age 13. The graduate of University of Nairobi School of Law has worked as a lawyer and women and children rights activist. The CRADLE is one of the MP’s dream come true. She founded the organization that promotes the rights of children since 1997. Millie has received the YWCA Democracy Award and the Eve woman of the year for human rights and gender. Her political tipping point came when she served as a delegate at the Bomas of Kenya, during the constitutional drafting process. ODM party nominated her to Parliament 2008 and she clinched the Mbita seat in the 2013 election.

  • 1 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: us washing our dirty linen in public. Please, let us put our house in order and let the country move forward. view
  • 26 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: On a point of order, hon. Deputy Speaker. The issue that is being raised is beyond the Committee. I know we are operating under new Standing Orders and a new Constitution and the Speaker needs to guide the House. These things will come up again and again. The Chair of the Committee said that, sometimes, he consults with the Chair and brings the report. This might arise even in other Committees. What is the correct procedure? Is it right for you as a Chair to consult with one or two Members and consider that as a Statement from the Committee? ... view
  • 26 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, thank you for giving me this opportunity. I had raised a similar issue last week and the Speaker, indeed, gave a promise that he will give a substantive Statement around it. The reason is that I have three Bills which I have brought and being a lawyer, I actually even developed a framework. So, it is not even that the Legal Office is going to develop afresh. The Victim Protection Bill even came for the First Reading in the last Parliament. I have The In-vitro Fertilization Bill and the Chid Justice Bill. We take our work very ... view

  • 25 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. I seek your indulgence, if you could kindly guide the House. The Leader of Majority Party, while he was moving this Motion, indicated that by procedure, amendments cannot be brought to this House. That is one. Secondly, if my memory serves me right, if a Motion of this nature is brought to the House and is defeated before the Floor, you cannot bring the same individuals. You will have to bring a totally new list of individuals. view
  • 25 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: So, what I would like the Chair to guide us on is if, indeed, what I have indicated of the two issues is true, and if they are true, because I know that hon. Members seem to have an issue with one or two people--- view
  • 25 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: If it is all, I have no problem. Then they can bring it and pull it down. But if the issue is one or two, then I would encourage the Leader of Majority Party to withdraw the Motion, seek consensus and bring a new list, instead of bringing division. So, I would encourage the Leader of Majority Party to withdraw the list and bring a new list that is agreed upon as a House. Thank you, hon. Speaker. view

  • 25 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. Just very briefly, first of all I want to say I am really disappointed at the way we have not looked adequately at the issue of double taxation. I am disappointed at our overtaxing Kenyans and especially poor Kenyans. view
  • 25 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Finally, hon. Deputy Speaker, I would want to encourage the same thing I said before; let us give time to debate. This is a House of debate. When we rush things and Kenyans are not satisfied, they tell us that we were in the House when the matter was passed. Even when I do not have numbers, I want my voice to be heard in the opposite. Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. view
