  • 10 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. First of all, I just want to congratulate you, the Members of Parliament and staff of Parliament because I think that we have done a commendable job in the last five years. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I never wanted to come to Parliament. I was actually sleeping one day when I was called and told that I had been nominated. I said that I was not interested, first, because it was not in my agenda - I was going to do my PhD – and, secondly, because of the acrimony that was in the country at ... view

  • 10 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, they are feeling jealous that it was very difficult for them to come here, but I found it very easy. It was not easy but God’s grace. Mr. Speaker, Sir, as other hon. Members have said, we came at a very acrimonious time, but I want to thank them that with time we actually learnt to put aside the acrimony and worked together for the good of this country. We have put aside partisan and selfish interests a lot of times, although it came with a lot of challenges. view
  • 9 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Forestry and Wildlife:- (a) whether he is aware that Master Zadock Omondi, a pupil at Dr. Williams Primary School, in Rusinga Island was killed by a hippopotamus on 14th February, 2012; (b) what steps the Government is taking to ensure that the family of the deceased is compensated; and, (c) what measures have been put in place to address human- wildlife conflict. view
  • 9 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is now one year since Master Zadock Omondi was killed by a hippopotamus in Rusinga Island. Why does it take the Ministry so long to process compensation? He was a very young boy whose life was cut short and the family has gone through a very distressful time. Such cases are very common in that area. What can he do to hasten compensation? Just for information, the incident was reported in Mbita? view
  • 9 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, indeed, the Assistant Minister is correct that the first point of report is Mbita. But the ultimate office that the matter was taken to is in Homa Bay. I am grateful him because he has said that he will take up this matter personally. It is now one year since that happened. Therefore, I would like to ask whether the Assistant Minister could give me an indication as to when he thinks this matter will be finalized, so that the family can relax. view
  • 9 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Could the Assistant Minister indicate whether they have mapped out the country for persons with disabilities and, there is a criterion that they are using, particularly in Mbita? view
  • 9 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: Yes, hon. Chrisantus Okemo! view
  • 9 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: I will give hon. Najib Balala and just for the information of hon. Members, if you see the next item on the Order Paper, I think we can still raise the same issues that are of interest to us. So, I give hon. Najib Balala then I will call on the Mover to respond. view
  • 9 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: I now call on the Minister to reply. view
