Millie has received the YWCA Democracy Award and the Eve woman of the year for human rights and gender. Her political tipping point came when she served as a delegate at the Bomas of Kenya, during the constitutional drafting process. • 3 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I agree to that. But given that I made a very passionate declaration as to my loyalty, I will wait for the next one - 2017. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, finally, I am hoping that we will pass this list. I would want to urge those Commissioners that when we pass this list, they must put the country before their self. That is because they have a very sensitive Commission and we do not want them to go the way of the last Commission. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, with those few remarks, I beg to second. view
  • 3 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I wish to congratulate the hon. Member for moving such an important Bill that will help us especially those who are poor and widows to benefit from the property of their husbands. view
  • 2 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Because I am short, I have to be fast. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I want to thank the Minister for the comprehensive answer and for actually heeding to the persistent lobbying by Mr. Ethuro about the IDPs in Turkana, by taking into account the Turkana IDPs. That is because I have also been lobbying persistently for integrated IDPs especially in Kisumu, Homa Bay and Mbita counties specifically. The register never reached there, even though there were IDPs who went there. Is the Minister considering integrated IDPs in the policy and when does she intend to pay those IDPs from Homa Bay, ... view
  • 2 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Is the hon. Minister really in order to ask me to do her work? I am a member of the Committee on IDPs and when we visited, we were told that the Provincial Administration that they were using sent the list to them. They had stuck with the list and the Chairman can attest to that. There was no response! Is it fair to ask me to do the work of the Ministry? I am a Backbencher! view

  • 2 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: The Provincial Administration is unco-operative! view
  • 2 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I thank you for giving me the opportunity to support this Motion. In supporting this Motion, I want to say that a law on cancer is long overdue. I know that there is an hon. Member who wanted to bring a Bill on cancer. I do not know what became of it. I would urge the hon. Member to hasten the process. view
  • 2 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Thank you for the information. I notice that hon. Monda is bringing the Bill, and I would like to support the initiative. view
  • 2 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, many of us say that cancer is a death sentence. It is not necessarily a death sentence. With proper and accessibility of medical care, cancer can be managed. Therefore, accessibility of a support system by the majority of Kenyans is long overdue given that the cost of managing cancer is very high. Only recently, a very young boy I know was diagnosed with cancer. The commencement of the one week treatment is about Kshs100,000 for chemotherapy alone, and not many Kenyans can afford it, and with even subsequent treatment. view
