Millie first thought about becoming Mbita MP at age 13. The graduate of University of Nairobi School of Law has worked as a lawyer and women and children rights activist. The CRADLE is one of the MP’s dream come true. She founded the organization that promotes the rights of children since 1997. Millie has received the YWCA Democracy Award and the Eve woman of the year for human rights and gender. Her political tipping point came when she served as a delegate at the Bomas of Kenya, during the constitutional drafting process. • 15 Jun 2011 in National Assembly: do with morality and law. We actually wedded a little even to the issue of sin. The issues surrounding them had to do a lot with sexuality. The Constitution provides very clearly that these persons must have very high moral character. Then the question is: What is our morality as a country? Is our morality only what is contained in the Constitution? Is there a morality outside what is contained in the Constitution? Is it a religious morality? If so, which religion? Assuming it is Christian morality, then, for me, some of the questions I was asking are: Will we ... view
  • 15 Jun 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I know that Members are finding this interesting. But for me, I am actually saying it very genuinely as a Christian; that we must actually probe that issue when we are talking about sexuality. Why one area of sexuality? I am not saying it is right. We, as a country, are at a crossroads. We say we are a religious nation. We say we are Christian, Muslim or Hindu, but there is little in our lives that shows that we are any of those. So, sometimes when we actually hold on to certain things, it is ... view
  • 15 Jun 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I do not know whether we would actually be able to resolve this in law. I know, as a former of student of jurisprudence, those are some of the issues even in law that have not been resolved. So, we must be clear. We have people who are living with each other, people who are in come-we-stay marriages; half of the people of this country are divorced. view
  • 15 Jun 2011 in National Assembly: One of the persons who presented before us gave us statistics on gays and lesbians. view
  • 9 Jun 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. In respect to that Bill, it stands committed to the relevant Departmental Committee, yet the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee is not in place. Could we, please, get your direction? view
  • 2 Jun 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, Mr. Namwamba is not the only one who is disappointed and annoyed. I am also very disappointed and annoyed because this case is just but one of the very many incidents of Ugandans harassing Kenyan traders and fishermen. On a daily basis, there are reported cases of fishermen being harassed. view
  • 2 Jun 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, most obliged. Can I seek your indulgence because this matter also affects me personally? view
  • 2 Jun 2011 in National Assembly: So, do I have your indulgence? view
  • 2 Jun 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the challenge is that my question would make sense if I give it a background. view
  • 2 Jun 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, what I would like to know from the Assistant Minister, because they have failed to take care of Kenyans on Rusinga Island, Mfangano Island, Remba, Ringiti, Migingo and the ones in Western Province--- Fishermen are killed daily but all we get are these amorphous answers. This is the stuff that leads to militias being formed. Kenyans will form militias to guard themselves if the Government cannot take care of its own people! Does the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya belong to Uganda or Kenya? view
