Millie Grace Akoth Odhiambo Mabona

Millie first thought about becoming Mbita MP at age 13. The graduate of University of Nairobi School of Law has worked as a lawyer and women and children rights activist. The CRADLE is one of the MP’s dream come true. She founded the organization that promotes the rights of children since 1997. Millie has received the YWCA Democracy Award and the Eve woman of the year for human rights and gender. Her political tipping point came when she served as a delegate at the Bomas of Kenya, during the constitutional drafting process. • 23 Mar 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is the hon. Member, who is a lawyer and a former Assistant Minister for Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs, in order to mislead Members of the House and the public? I have heard him say it twice, by inference, that mass action is wrong, when it is constitutional! It is a right under the Bill of Rights! view
  • 23 Mar 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I think you have heard the Minister confirming what I have said. If we thought mass action was wrong, as a House we sat and passed it in the Constitution as a constitutional right! He had an opportunity to stop providing for mass action in this House by convincing us that it is wrong. But now that it is constitutional, is he in order to mislead the country and this House that if you engage in mass action, it is wrong? The Constitution allows you to engage in mass action ... view
  • 23 Mar 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. Could hon. Githae, before he leaves, please, withdraw his remarks and apologize to this House because ODM did not ask anybody to go the Hague and hang? view
  • 23 Mar 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, he has actually heard me! He has run away! I, therefore, want to move that he be named because that is disrespect to this House. He is the one who said, “Do not be vague, go to The Hague”. view
  • 2 Mar 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to ask the Minister of State for Immigration and Registration of Persons the following Question by Private Notice:- (a) Why has the issuance of the national identity cards stopped in most parts of the country? (b) Is the Minister aware that the interruption violates Article 12(1) of the Constitution? (c) What steps is the Government taking to resume the registration and ensure compliance with the Constitution? view
  • 2 Mar 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Minister is indicating that the process has not stopped but has scaled down. The process of scaling down means that you have effectively stopped in relation to some people. I am glad that you have indicated that you are violating the Constitution. What are you going to do to immediately redress that violation because we have several young men and women who are not able to get their identification which is a right under the Constitution? view
  • 2 Mar 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is the Minister in order to be concentrating on a question that he has asked himself and is answering? Issuance of identification cards to deserving Kenyans is a right under the Constitution. We want to know how the Minister will issue those cards and not how he will write people’s names in some documents which are kept in chiefs’ offices. This is because you cannot use the register of the chief to go and look for a job. People use identification cards to look for jobs. So, is the Minister in ... view
  • 2 Mar 2011 in National Assembly: We want identity cards, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir! view
  • 2 Mar 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. From the interactions we have had, you can see clearly that the Minister does not have proper answers. This is a matter of national interest because it borders on breach of the Constitution. Would I be in order to request that this matter be referred to the relevant departmental Committee in conjunction with the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee (CIOC)? view
  • 2 Mar 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Thank you for the indulgence. I just want to clarify that my request was in relation to the Committee on Administration and National Security. There are many young people who cannot get jobs, who have just come out of school. view
