Millie Grace Akoth Odhiambo Mabona

Millie first thought about becoming Mbita MP at age 13. The graduate of University of Nairobi School of Law has worked as a lawyer and women and children rights activist. The CRADLE is one of the MP’s dream come true. She founded the organization that promotes the rights of children since 1997. Millie has received the YWCA Democracy Award and the Eve woman of the year for human rights and gender. Her political tipping point came when she served as a delegate at the Bomas of Kenya, during the constitutional drafting process. ODM party nominated her to Parliament 2008 and she clinched the Mbita seat in the 2013 election.

There was a tragedy in my constituency yesterday evening. A number of people were traveling from Homa Bay Town by boat. The weather was bad and the boat capsized. Two people have already been confirmed dead and nine are missing. Because they were missing overnight, it is presumed that they are most likely dead. My constituency is likely to have lost 11 people. However, in a very special way, the reason why I am raising this point of order is because tragedies do not respect orders. I will later be raising a more substantive issue.
