(a) The total area of land in hectares in gazetted forests that has remained fallow after logging of plantation trees in the country is 19,000 hectares. This area has been decreasing gradually as we have a tree planting programme for 7,000 hectares annually implemented by the Government and other stakeholders. You can still use over-mature trees to do other things, for example, in building. Secondly, trees, no matter the age, are useful to the environment because they attract rain. view
