21 Aug 2007 in National Assembly:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) There have been no specific reports of wildlife killings in Samburu District. The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) presence in the district is adequately facilitated to monitor the wildlife movements. (b) Apart from the district office in Maralal with a warden in charge, KWS has established outposts in Suguta, Latakweny, Wamba, Serolewi and Ngurunit, to ensure wildlife security in Samburu District, and to deal with human-wildlife conflict. KWS has a platoon base in Baawa with 15 rangers that cover Leroghi, Kirisia, North Laikipia ranches up to the boundary of Samburu and Baringo districts, ...

21 Aug 2007 in National Assembly:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, on a serious note, I will look into that matter. I invite the hon. Member to bring any suggestions that he has, so that we can put them into consideration when we will be coming up with a proposal to help my friend, the hon. Member for Samburu West Constituency. Those are some of the things we want to put into consideration in the proposals that we have. Otherwise, I am aware of what is happening. We are looking into the matter seriously.

9 Aug 2007 in National Assembly:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, I do not want to appear to be against the information that the hon. Member has. I also have different information. So, he can come to our offices with whatever information he has, we can compare notes, because my Ministry does not intend to mistreat the former workers of Homabay Hotel Limited. This is a matter we need to settle because it has remained pending for many years now. I sympathise with the former employees, but we need to get proper documents. Otherwise, we will not only help but do what we can, as a Ministry, to ...

9 Aug 2007 in National Assembly:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am not disputing what the hon. Member is saying. I am saying that, according to the records we have, there is an agreement that was signed between KUDHEIHA Workers Union, a representative of the workers' committee, KTDC and the District Labour Officer. I am also informed that 22 former workers signed the agreement. Are there more workers than the 22 who signed? Is there any additional information on the matter? So, I am appealing to the hon. Member to come to our offices, so that we can settle the matter in a proper manner. The hon. ...

25 Jul 2007 in National Assembly:
Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. There are no constant attacks on fishermen at Karuki area. The residents of the area in question, that is Muvuria Location, are allowed to fish on one side of Kamburu Dam, while the other side belongs to Mwea National Reserve. That is a protected area; where fishing is outlawed. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the KWS staff at Mwea National Reserve conduct regular patrols on the protected side of the dam to check on illegal fishing by residents, and protect the farms along the Thiba River from invasion by hippos. However, there was ...

25 Jul 2007 in National Assembly:
Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is sad that lives were lost in that particular area and, humanly speaking, I want to condole my friend, the hon. Member. He has my sympathies for the deaths of those people. But I would like to advise my colleague to register his complaints as per the procedures and, definitely, we will see how best to resolve that issue. Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir.
