  • 22 Jul 2015 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I just want to clarify that I could be talking about the public perception, that Parliament is already very privileged and the word “fat” is just to illustrate the point. The debates on why President Obama is not coming to address us in Parliament--- We have not received any official communication. I received a card yesterday, in which I was asked to confirm whether I will attend a speech by the President of the United States of America (USA), which I did. I then received an email response instructing me to go and line up at ... view
  • 22 Jul 2015 in Senate: This is not a House of layabouts, but an arm of Parliament. President Obama having been a Senator, it would have been a matter of great honour if he would have addressed Senators and Members of the National Assembly. In the public grapevine, the story is that the institution of Parliament has become so dishonourable that the President of the USA would not want to associate himself with Parliament. I hope that is not true, but that is what is circulating on social media and the debates on social platforms. There is enough evidence, as Sen. (Eng.) Muriuki, the Senate ... view
  • 21 Jul 2015 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I thank you for the Communication which I would describe as “Solomonic” in its essence. You have stood firmly for the protection and in defence of this Constitution. Since the illegal appointment of the Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) - that is what it is going by your Communication - certain very important decisions have been made. In the month of July, the Monetary Policy Committee of the CBK that is chaired by the Governor raised the CBK rate from 10 per cent to 15 per cent and the Kenya banks benchmark rate from ... view

  • 14 Jul 2015 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to speak about this Bill. I thank the Mover of the Bill, Sen. Sang. There are people who assume that I am the youngest elected Senator in this House but credit goes to Sen. Sang. Over the years, he has proven that young Senators are also capable of doing a splendid job. I congratulate him on that. As I speak about this Bill, allow me to pay tribute to the late comedian, Mzee Ojwang. Many of us cannot recall any other name besides Ojwang Hatari. He is one of those ... view
  • 9 Jul 2015 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I am not responding to that Statement. I would like to request for a Statement. I wonder if this is an appropriate time. view
  • 9 Jul 2015 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, pursuant to Standing Order No.45 (2) (b), I wish to seek a Statement from the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on National Security and Foreign Relations regarding the status of registration and issuance of national identity cards. In the Statement, the Chairperson should address the following specific issues:- (1) What measures the national Government is taking to decentralize the processing and issuance of identity cards to counties, considering that delay in issuance of the document locks out the applicants who are mainly women and youth from economic opportunities? (2) Could the Chairperson provide a per county ... view
