He was the Bungoma Senator (2013 - 2022; Leader of Minority in the Senate (2013 - 2017)
By virtue of his position as co-principal in NASA he was retained as Minority Leader in the 12th Parliament but later replaced by his Siaya counterpart after 19 senators who attended Nasa's Parliamentary Group meeting at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi unanimously voted to replace him with Senator James Orengo on 15th March, 2018.

Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Committee carried out thorough investigations, including visitations and public hearings in various parts of the country. The Committee was able to establish and bring to the fore the deep rot and decay that was the norm in the operations of the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB). For instance, bean seeds and fertilizer stocked in Nyansiongo Depot in Nyamira County was found to have long expired and farmers were recording a 100 per cent germination failure. This startling and frightening report was presented to the Committee sitting and hearing in this Chamber in the presence of the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries; hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri. When the Committee visited Eldoret NCPB stores in Uasin Gishu County, it was able to notice and note that almost all the maize cereal in the stores was discolored.
