He was the Bungoma Senator (2013 - 2022; Leader of Minority in the Senate (2013 - 2017)
By virtue of his position as co-principal in NASA he was retained as Minority Leader in the 12th Parliament but later replaced by his Siaya counterpart after 19 senators who attended Nasa's Parliamentary Group meeting at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi unanimously voted to replace him with Senator James Orengo on 15th March, 2018.

Two days ago, I saw an elderly woman from Nyeri on TV shedding tears because of the issue of speed governors. She said that every 18 or 24 months, they are forced to buy new speed governors at a cost of Kshs40,000. This is just about the profit they make from the matatus they run. On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. It cannot be true that you taught Sen. Murkomen that the principal engagement of the IMF and the World Bank is to restructure debt. That is not what they were set up to do. If you did that, it is most unfortunate.

I want to bring the attention of the House to Article 201(c) of the Constitution, which says:- “The burdens and benefits of the use of resources and public borrowing shall be shared equitably between present and future generations.”
