9 Oct 2007 in National Assembly:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to seek a Ministerial Statement from the Minister for Energy. Could he explain to this House as to why Bomet District and its environs have, for the last October 9, 2007 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 4401 three days, been experiencing continued power black-outs and a major fuel shortage, thus causing undue suffering to the residents. It is affecting the provision of services at the hospitals. Some facilities have stand-by generators but there is no fuel to run them. The lives of patients in those hospitals are in great danger. The vaccines which require electricity to be preserved ...

9 Oct 2007 in National Assembly:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, what measures is the Minister taking to restore power? We also have a shortage of fuel in Bomet District. Three days without power, Bomet residents will start asking questions, especially when we are just approaching a general election. Is it that they are being sidelined, sanctioned or discriminated against? We expect the Minister to immediately restore power so that the residents of Bomet do not continue suffering.

13 Sep 2007 in National Assembly:
Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, while appreciating the Ministry for the good work it has continued to do, we have contractors. In Bomet, there is a contract which was issued in the last financial year, but up to now, it has not been completed. Our people have been reminded of an incident which happened in Kipipiri, where some poles were brought on site, but when the people did not vote in a particular manner, the poles were taken away. What is the Minister doing about those contractors who have just put up poles, but who have not completed the project?

30 Aug 2007 in National Assembly:
Mr. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, it is important! If we want to get to the bottom of a free Press and free information, I think we need to highlight areas on which we feel we should have some common meeting ground. Mr. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, I am a Member of Parliament in KANU. However, today I was presented as one of those who subscribe to the symbol "rungu" . On the other side, they showed the orange and listed its supporters. I feel that my position was not properly presented in the media, in that my symbol is not ...

30 Aug 2007 in National Assembly:
So, they ought to have presented my position very well. If they have to describe my party, or what my position is, they should state: "Nick Salat and So-and-so subscribe to this particular symbol". Mine is jogoo na kila siku itakuwa jogoo .

28 Aug 2007 in National Assembly:
Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am confused here. It is my understanding that KRC does not exist any more. We have the Rift Valley Railways Corporation which took over the KRC. So, which of the two is the Assistant Minister referring to when he says that it will address this particular case? Is it the KRC, which is already wound up, or the new owners of the Rift Valley Railways Corporation?

Mr. Speaker, Sir, when the Assistant Minister was replying to the question by Mr. Mwandawiro, he said that the people of Mombasa are loyal to the Government. Do we have to be loyal to have universities in Kenya? August 15, 2007 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 3219
