  • 2 Aug 2023 in Senate: important. I come from the lake which is a shared resource between three countries; Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya. The lake is a source of livelihood for millions of people living around it. However, there is a report from the United Nations (UN) that states that the lake is dying because of pollution from factories like the sugar mills around it, hospitals and other sources of pollution including the raid of the lake by hyacinth menace. view
  • 2 Aug 2023 in Senate: If no steps are taken to control the pollution of the lake, it is estimated that within the next 50 years, the lake will be dead. So, this Statement which is sought by Sen. Ogola is important. Let the committee fully investigate the lake and find out exactly how it can be revived so that the fish stocks which are diminishing including those that I used to eat when I was young and have disappeared--- This is because of pollution. view
  • 2 Aug 2023 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, you know that Kenya is the one which contributes most of the rivers which drain into Lake Victoria. I think it is only Kagera, which is the other major Lake getting into Lake Victoria. Fish like breeding in warm waters. When they breed in these warm waters, they migrate to Tanzania and Uganda. When our fishermen go to look for fish around there, they are arrested and heavily fined. The lake is a source of livelihood. It is the kahawa, the tea and the gold for those people living around the lake. view
  • 2 Aug 2023 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I hope this Committee will come up with a very good report which will help brighten the future of this very important resource for the people living around the riparian land near the Lake. Thank you. view
  • 27 Jul 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I am surprised and shocked at my brothers speaking about use of guns. It is very clear how the police should use the gun. The gun for the police is to protect the property and life of mwananchi . It can only be used against mwananchi if they are a threat to the police. This is a situation where people who have no arms and are demonstrating with their hands and exercising their democratic rights are shot by the police. My brothers across the Floor--- view
  • 27 Jul 2023 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, those are the issues that will be investigated by the Committee. I am sure it will come to the same conclusion as I have. Hon. Cherargei, when your security was withdrawn, you cried. Two wrongs do not make a right. The fact that yours was withdrawn does not make it right to now withdraw the security of others. view

  • 27 Jul 2023 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is a privilege for all senators to have their security. It is very sad that our Members who are representatives of the people, some of them elected, can stand on the Floor of the House and celebrate when their leaders are saying that the police did a good job by killing people. It is very sad. view
