  • 10 Apr 2025 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to make a personal statement on the life and legacy of Prof. Philemon Fundi Indire. I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.52(1) to make a personal statement on a matter of national concern, namely the life and legacy of Professor Philemon Fundi Indire, who passed away on 13th March, 2025 and will be buried on Saturday, this weekend. Prof. Philemon Fundi Indire, a constituent of Vihiga County, was a towering figure in Kenya's academic, religious, diplomatic and political landscape. He stood out as one of Kenya's most distinguished educationists and public servants. Prof. Indire ... view
  • 10 Apr 2025 in Senate: In his last years, Prof. Indire continued to shape young minds at the Maseno University and also served as a visiting professor in multiple universities in the United States. He was a devoted Quaker and participated very actively in Quaker organizations across the world and, most importantly, the setup of Friends Centre along Ngong Road. He had a moral compass to many in both private and public spheres. Vihiga County and, indeed, the entire nation mourns the loss of this great mind and mentor; a man whose life was a library of wisdom, service and humility. His contribution to education ... view
  • 9 Apr 2025 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Before I ask my question, allow me to thank the Cabinet Secretary for attending, although she has been in the Ministry for a short time. She appears to be a quick learner. That said, I would like to inquire from the Cabinet Secretary about the Ministry's policy on sawmilling in the forests. In my county, specifically in Kibiri Forest, which is part of the larger Kakamega Forest, the local community actively participates in growing trees and taking care of the forest. However, when it comes to sawmilling and harvesting the trees, they do not ... view
  • 9 Apr 2025 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am very sorry. I was consulting with my party Member here. view
  • 9 Apr 2025 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the answer given by madam Cabinet Secretary is about the tendering process. The information I have is that for all the people who have been given jobs, none of them is local. So, where is the 30 per cent she is referring to? I have evidence that I can provide on that. view
  • 9 Apr 2025 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I do not want to have trouble with my good sister, Sen. Orwoba, but you know the rules of this House. Is it in order for her to impute improper motives on the colleagues without a substantive motion? view
  • 9 Apr 2025 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I wanted to say this when she was on the Floor. It is not true that the Committee only has lawyers. We have two very serious members who are well grounded in civil society. That is Sen. Crystal Asige and Sen. Okiya Omatatah. These are members who cannot do the kind of things that Sen. Orwoba is trying to insinuate. I want to suggest that when a member is contributing to this kind of debate, I still insist that debating a Member or other Members without a substantive Motion, even if you have the facts, is not ... view
  • 9 Apr 2025 in Senate: No, I am talking to the House. I am not talking to the Chair. I think it is out of order for that kind of scenario to arise where any one of us, including myself, cannot stand here and start debating the conduct of a Member or other Members without a substantive Motion, even if I have the facts with me. That is out of order and I would like those statements that Sen. Gloria has stated to be expunged from the records of this House. view
  • 9 Apr 2025 in Senate: On a point of order, Madam Temporary Speaker. view
  • 9 Apr 2025 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I was the last speaker yesterday on this Motion, and I was informed that I had 16 minutes remaining. I kindly plead my case before you, as I was handling an emergency and arrived late today. I would like to request my allocated time to contribute to this very important Motion. I have pleaded my case before you on why I was absent at the beginning of the debate. view
