Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Allow me to comment on the statement by Sen. Oketch Gicheru on the issue of data privacy and protection. For the last few days, we have had a lot of conversation in this House on data privacy and protection. We have also seen a lot of communication in media on the matter of data privacy. However, the problem we are having in this country on the matter of data protection is the law. The current law on data protection, which is the Data Protection Act, is very inhibiting. We need to repeal it so ...

and give it to other professions who understand the job. Data protection, to a large extent, is largely Information Technology (IT) driven. However, our data protection law says the head of that institution should be a lawyer. What does a lawyer understand about technology more than a computer scientist like Godfrey Osotsi? That is where the problem is. This is a person who will need to understand the challenges we have with our telecoms and how our telecoms are being used to interfere with data privacy. One of the things to do is review that law. Two, it is important, according to the international standards in data protection, that the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner must be independent. our Government. Young people who have graduated from universities can take internship opportunities in Government and learn on the job. The only challenge is that after two years, they have nowhere else to go. They are not able to be absorbed in the same public service. It is a waste of time and resources. It is important that we have a policy where these young people will be absorbed in public service on permanent and pensionable terms. Mr. Speaker, Sir, let me also comment on the Statement by Sen. Mumma on the FKF. This Statement is timely. As you are ...

Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, there is a serious problem with this system. I came here at 2.30 p.m., and I pressed my button. Later, I realized that it was not reflecting on your dashboard. It is not fair that a Member comes in here and sits all this time and cannot be given a chance to speak because of the system. We need to do something about this system.

Mr. Speaker, Sir, thank you for this opportunity. Indeed, I am ready to substantiate the remarks I made last week in regards to the dramatic ouster of Prof. Laban Ayiro from Moi University in 2016. I have provided evidence to this House to the audio office, and I have a copy with me. This evidence is in line with your directive this afternoon. The evidence I have is in form of videos, which have been sourced from a media house. I will proceed in this manner. On 20th September, 2016, the North Rift leaders stormed Moi University in protest against ...
