I am in total support of this. We need to ratify this treaty as a country. It is very encouraging that according to our new Constitution this Parliament is given an opportunity to engage and ratify some of these protocols. The Treaty Making and Ratification Act of 2012 is very clear that the National Assembly has the sovereign responsibility of approving ratification of treaties. Section 8 of the Treaty Making and Ratification Act is very clear that it is not just this National Assembly that is mandated to pass and ratify, but also the Kenyan public needs to get an opportunity to engage and look at the text. I saw from the Report of the Committee that it facilitated a very elaborate public participation process where Kenyans gave their views about this treaty and approved it.
