Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, important topics were covered. One of them, which I would like to comment on, was on maternal health and reduction of child mortality. We should lay more emphasis on this matter here in this country. Many women still pass on because of being unable to access maternal services. The Ministry of Medical Services should put more emphasis on protection of women by putting in place preventive measures. The Ministry should provide health facilities closer to every woman in the country. That way, we will reduce maternal deaths and child mortality. The IPU Assembly discussed this ...

Programme is a good initiative by the Government. We should have proper ways of channeling employment opportunities to the youth. Right now it is the Government officials who do this. If this initiative could have fallen under the Members of Parliament, it could have been better. I still commend the Government for that because the youth are now getting some income out of this initiative. We also looked at a topic on people with disability. Even in this Tenth Parliament, we do not have a single Member of Parliament with disability who was elected or nominated and yet these are ...

Thank you, Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, for that important ruling because if we start lobbying, some of us will never get a chance to contribute.

I would like to contribute to this important Motion. The rich have created the problem of squatters. I am saying this because after Independence and the Europeans left, who owned the large tracts of land? Who pushed out the squatters? We should speak on this issue as politicians. We are here because we have been elected by people and more so, the squatters who have never been listened to. When we are campaigning to be elected to this House, we go and listen to the squatters who have been living in abject poverty. Their children do not go to school ...

On a point of order, Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker. Is it in order for the hon. Member to keep repeating that some people did not get land freely in Rift Valley Province, and yet we know that some people were politically settled in the province?

Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this chance to support the Motion. I am one of the legislators who feel that they should go back to their constituents, but many questions keep striking my mind. I still have Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who need to be settled. But the question they ask is why they are in the camps. You will realise that this is a planting season; they are farmers and they also need to contribute something through farming. They want to have income to educate their children. I feel that the Government should seriously ...

food and better services. But if we politicise the issue of teachers, where are we heading? Teachers are very important! They contribute a lot in bringing up better citizens in this country. I feel that we should listen to them. This is a part of our society that should be listened to and given more resources.

Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, again, I find that this is high time we came together, forgot our differences and made this country one that Kenyans out there can be proud of. If we forget our ethnic or political differences, this country will rely on us to provide better leadership. It is important for all of us to go back and preach peace, and nothing but peace.
