It will be gazetted as such when it acquires the necessary infrastructure for a district hospital. The Ministry has received requests to upgrade lower level facilities like Matungu Sub- district Hospital to become district hospitals in all these new districts. However, the Ministry’s annual development allocation of Kshs300 million is insufficient to meet the upgrading needs averaging close to Kshs500 million per facility. So what we have is less than what we require to upgrade a single facility. In view of this inadequate budget, the Ministry will progressively prioritize construction of key infrastructure in the facilities earmarked for upgrading within the available budget. ... view
