  • 25 May 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, thank you for giving me this opportunity. I rise to oppose this Motion. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, as I oppose this Motion, I really would like to join some of my colleagues who have raised issues with the intentions of bringing some Motions before this House. With all due respect to my colleague, Mr. Jamleck Kamau, who brought this Motion to this House, its intention continues to baffle some of us. Some of the wording of this Motion is total alarmist statements which have no basis. For example, when the Mover of this Motion ... view

  • 18 May 2011 in National Assembly: My reasons for bringing this amendment is to set timelines in this very important programme that we are asking to be rolled out to all the elderly persons in this country. It is important for this Parliament to start working, not just in the abstract, but within timelines that can be followed. I would like to ask my colleague, hon. Shakeel, to second the amendment. view
  • 11 May 2011 in National Assembly: Thank you, Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker. I rise to support this Motion on setting up of a Parliamentary Select Committee on the Cost of Living. I want to be very brief while stating why I feel that this is a very important committee to set up. It is because of the kinds of questions that Kenyans continue to ask us. These are questions that beg answers that the Government gives in spurts. Once in a while we get answers when we ask these questions. But most of the time the Government is not in agreement. Sometimes we hear contradictions from ... view
  • 11 May 2011 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, we keep on being told by this Government that it is planning ahead on the issues of climate change and disaster mitigation. That is because climate change is here to stay. But when we go to the ground, we do not see how they are planning to do this. One of the reasons that we know that there is drought is because of climate change. We have known this for years. It is not new to our country and yet, we do not plan for that very drought that will come again. It will be followed ... view
  • 11 May 2011 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, today, again, I read that a mother of seven children has been arrested because of aborting. I am sure that, that woman was not aborting because she is a prostitute. It is because she got pregnant again and she could not see how she is going to bring forth another eighth mouth to feed. That is the country that we are living in. Are we proud of it as we continue to play politics and not taking care of the livelihoods of our citizens? Very soon Kenya will go the way the other countries are going. ... view
  • 4 May 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, could the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, tell us how to deal with the questions that we are being asked by many women who had already been initiated into this programme? Specifically, I would like to bring to his attention the women who operate at Kenyatta Market. They were asked for money and taken for training. Some parted with Kshs100 while others Kshs1,000. What can we specifically do to the women who we know have already been swindled out of their money? view
