Rt. Hon.(Eng) Raila Amolo Odinga

Raila Odinga served as Prime Minister of Kenya, and was the MP of Langata between 1992 and March 2013. He came third in the 1997 Presidential election and as ODM candidate was runner up to Mwai Kibaki in the 2007 Presidential Election. In 2013 he unsuccessfully contested the Presidential elections that saw Uhuru Kenyatta declared the 4th President. In 2017 he successfully contested the August 8th polls that saw the Supreme Court nullify the elections. He nonetheless absconded the fresh October 26th polls that saw President Uhuru re-elected for another final term.

  • 13 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, we are dealing with an issue of principle, which is very fundamental. This officer worked for the Government for so many years. Due to a mistake that he made that led him to be accused of negligence, he is dismissed with loss of all benefits. Could the Assistant Minister tell the House under which section of the law this person was denied his dues for which he had worked for all those years? view
  • 13 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. The Assistant Minister has not answered the question. Which section of the Employment Act allows the Government to dismiss an officer with loss of all dues or benefits after having served for all those years? Could the Assistant Minister quote the relevant section of the Act? view
  • 13 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. Did you hear the Assistant Minister say that there was an embargo imposed on this country by some other countries? This is a sovereign state. Is the Assistant Minister in order to mislead the House that this country can be put under siege by some other powers? view
  • 12 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is debate really over? view
  • 12 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: But has he finished? view
  • 12 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I stand to oppose this most unscientific Motion. The Mover of this Motion, being a scientist himself--- I am really taken aback as to why the Mover would like to take Kenya behind other countries. We live in a scientific age where mankind continues to study and discover the laws of nature, and make use of them for the service of mankind. There are many things that we are doing today, which were not imaginable some years back. Remember that Galileo was "burned a steak" for merely saying that the world was round. Years later, ... view
  • 12 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, with regard to Head 011, Item 2211000; Specialised Materials and Supplies, last year there was a provision of Kshs109,279,020. This time round the Minister is asking for Kshs214 million. Can we be told what these Specialised Materials and Supplies are? view
  • 12 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, in light of the previous experience about the so-called security items, this House resolved that Members need to be fully satisfied that this is not just another Anglo Leasing project and that, the Government is not just using this kind of Item to hide other shady deals. Therefore, under the Constitution, the House is fully entitled to be informed of what those items are. We demand that the Minister does so. view
  • 12 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir. We are dealing with a very serious matter. It appears that the Chair is taking the Opposition side completely for granted. There is no point for us to be here. However, it is our responsibility to scrutinise the expenditure, but the Chair is denying us that opportunity. It appears as if the Chair is allowing "voting machines" on the Government side to raise whatever they want and we, on this side, just rubber- stamp it. We are not prepared to be used as rubber-stamps! view
  • 12 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, we are all concerned about the security of the Head of State. That fact is without question. However, we are talking about a Government which is on record as having said that it wants to reduce costs. As a result of that new policy, Cabinet Ministers have been deprived of escort vehicles. But here is a case where, while we are doing that--- view
