Rt. Hon.(Eng) Raila Amolo Odinga

Raila Odinga served as Prime Minister of Kenya, and was the MP of Langata between 1992 and March 2013. He came third in the 1997 Presidential election and as ODM candidate was runner up to Mwai Kibaki in the 2007 Presidential Election. In 2013 he unsuccessfully contested the Presidential elections that saw Uhuru Kenyatta declared the 4th President. In 2017 he successfully contested the August 8th polls that saw the Supreme Court nullify the elections. He nonetheless absconded the fresh October 26th polls that saw President Uhuru re-elected for another final term.

  • 16 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I do not know what is out of order! These people had been asked to move out of this area. The hon. Member himself, for pure populism, was at the forefront in agitating the people not to move and the accident then occurred. Investigations have been carried out and the report is available which the hon. Member then has but we are talking all the time about compensations. So, when a tanker rolls and people rush to go and draw fuel from that tanker and then they are burnt in the process, should the Government be ... view
  • 16 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I do not mind the information from the Member so long as he knows that he is part of the Front Bench. view

  • 16 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I have taken the information. I will carry out my own investigations. view
  • 16 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am very sorry that I inadvertently omitted to respond to the clarification sought by the Member for Bura. I want to inform the Member that the policy is ready and it is going to the Cabinet any time from now. I am sure within one month, it is going to be before this House. view
  • 16 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I thank the Member for raising that question. I wish she raised that question to the Minister for Forestry and Wildlife. She has acknowledged the work that they are doing. The Government is doing everything in its power, using schools, for example, to carry out tree planting all over the country. Messages are going out in all market centres for people to engage in tree planting. We estimate that for us to increase our forest cover from the current under 2 per cent to the required 10 per cent by the year 2030, we need to ... view
  • 16 May 2012 in National Assembly: We are trying to do the same in Mt. Kenya Forest, where there have been so many squatters. They had invaded the forest. We want to do the same thing in Cherangany and Mt. Elgon. We are doing the same thing in Mau. The efforts in Mau are yielding results now. view
  • 16 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, we have reclaimed over 50,000 acres of Mau Forest and the residents around that area can see that the rains have improved right now. So, the efforts are beginning to yield results despite the negative attitudes and criticism that were being exercised by some Members of this House. view
  • 16 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, let us work together as a team; as leaders of this country, so that the future generation can be proud that there were Kenyans who cared about their environment, and did all that it took so that our environment could be conserved. view
  • 9 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I decided that I use the time to give a comprehensive response to this Question. Article 4 of our Constitution declares the Republic of Kenya to be a multi-party democratic State founded on the values and principles of democracy, participation of the people, good governance, integrity, transparency and accountability, among others. Our Constitution outlines in Article 81 the principles of our electoral system which includes free and fair periodic elections by secret ballot, free from violence, intimidation and improper influence or corruption conducted by an independent body and administered in a transparent, impartial, neutral, efficient, accurate and ... view
