Rt. Hon.(Eng) Raila Amolo Odinga

Raila Odinga served as Prime Minister of Kenya, and was the MP of Langata between 1992 and March 2013. He came third in the 1997 Presidential election and as ODM candidate was runner up to Mwai Kibaki in the 2007 Presidential Election. In 2013 he unsuccessfully contested the Presidential elections that saw Uhuru Kenyatta declared the 4th President. In 2017 he successfully contested the August 8th polls that saw the Supreme Court nullify the elections. He nonetheless absconded the fresh October 26th polls that saw President Uhuru re-elected for another final term.

  • 2 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, if you allow me, it is important that I quote from this letter because I want it fully understood that the project is not being cancelled but it is just being re-designed. The impression created amongst members of the public is that this project is being cancelled and the money being refunded to the World Bank. The letter says:- “The Kenya Youth Empowerment Project Component provides funding for labour intensive works and social services, amounting to US$43 million over a four year period. The main objective of this Component is to support the Government in reducing vulnerability ... view
  • 2 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Programme. The Component finances labour intensive projects that provide income opportunities to participating youth through payment of wages and at the same time enhance community access to social and economic infrastructure. The target group of the Component is the unemployed youth aged between 18 and 35 years. The Office of the Prime Minister has concerns that the Component does not have adequate controls to ensure that the project resources are spent only for the specific purposes intended, given the decentralised nature of the project. This is a result of the First Phase experience. The Component is implemented through six line ... view

  • 6 Sep 2011 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity. I want to join everybody here in congratulating our athletes for a sterling performance. view
  • 6 Sep 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, this is the best performance that Kenya has achieved in the World Athletics Championship. Seven gold medals, seven silver medals and a total of 17 medals is a great achievement. We need to know that this was achieved only on the track, and we did not get any medal in the field events. We can say here without fear of contradiction that if we just take the medals that were won on the track, Kenya is number one in the world. view
  • 6 Sep 2011 in National Assembly: Russia, which got a number of medals in the field events only got two medals more than Kenya. So, this is great and it does not matter whether it was gold, silver or bronze. All of them performed very well. It is only one person who can win gold. When they are running they do so as a team supporting each other. So, let us not say that we are elevating those who got gold over those who got silver or bronze medals. Let us go back to where we started. Kenyans participated in the Olympic games for the first ... view
  • 6 Sep 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, we have started the process of honoring these athletes. As we honor our athletes, let us also look at our football. We also need to give credit where it is due. Kenya beat Guinnea Bissau on Saturday at the Nyayo Stadium. We must also congratulate our football team for a job well done. The President has today offered that if the Kenyan team goes and beats Uganda in Kampala on 8th October, 2011, the Government will give them a big reward. I have talked about a cash reward. I want our hon. Members to do ... view
