  • 2 Oct 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity to support my sister, Mheshimiwa Mishi. I would like to start by sending my condolences to the family, friends and relatives of the two beautiful souls that have left us. I join my colleagues in saying that somebody ought to have taken responsibility. I confirm to this House that I sit on the Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works and Housing. I can confirm that all the allegations that were raised here regarding the management of the Kenya Ferry Services are true. This is one CEO who has never ... view
  • 2 Oct 2019 in National Assembly: Gullet of the Kenya Red Cross comes in. If the Government cannot address disasters, can it delegate that to the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)? If we cannot have a clear direction, I am just left wondering what will happen, should one day, the ferry that carries over 3,000 people - God forbid - go under. I assure my sister Mishi that as I go to that Committee meeting tomorrow, I will demand and speak on their behalf. If it means causing chaos there I will because this is so sad. I am just seeing a tweet that the CS has appointed ... view
  • 25 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me an opportunity to also add my voice to this very noble Bill. At the outset, I join my colleagues in congratulating Hon. Martha for bringing this Bill. I support it for several reasons. Adopting a child is giving an opportunity to the future leaders of Kenya. So, I appreciate the Departmental Committee on Labour and Social Welfare to consider that aspect before bringing it here for debate. It is only a Member who is a mother who can think of bringing such a Motion to the House. view
  • 25 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I know it breaks your heart and that of many in this Chamber that every other day we wake up to a sad story of a minor who has been defiled hitting the media headlines. Defilement of minors is so rampant that it is breaking our hearts, especially The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only. Acertified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor. view
  • 25 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: us mothers. Last week, a five-year old girl was defiled. If that child was adopted by a stable family, she would be protected from such barbarism. Cases of drug abuse have increased because of absentee parents and lack of opportunities due to poverty. So, we will have less of such if families can adopt such a child. view
  • 25 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I support hoping that the Committee will allow the three months that the Hon. Member is asking for bonding. This is because bonding is an important aspect of adoption. Those of us with adopted children can tell you that the initial stages of welcoming a child into a family plays a significant role. view
  • 25 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: With those remarks, I support. view
  • 24 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you so much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I also rise to support this Adjournment Motion, more specifically to support what Mheshimiwa Chris has just so ably stated. As a mother, it breaks my heart to see parents losing their children through negligence. I send my condolences to the family, friends and those who lost their loved ones. The proposal by view
  • 24 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: Chris will get to the bottom of the matter. It is so sad when you listen to the blame games. I listened to the Ministry of Education saying that this was a private school. I listened to the owner of the school say that the blame was with the Nairobi County Government. The Nairobi Government talked about structural defects. That leaves me wondering who is responsible for what is in this country. The only way we can get to the bottom of it is for Parliament to take its role very seriously. It is not just a matter of tabling ... view
  • 17 Sep 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I apologise for that. I would like to read a Petition regarding land dispute between the residents of Burat Isiolo County and the Kenya Defence Forces School of Infantry. I, the undersigned, on behalf of the concerned residents of Burat in Isiolo County, draw the attention of the House to the following: THAT, residents of Burat settled on and have been enjoying uninterrupted stay and utility of their ancestral land, measuring approximately 10,000 acres, since Independence until the Kenya Defence Forces appeared in 1982 with the intention of setting up a military base; THAT, in appreciation ... view
