  • 15 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, judging from the mood of the House, it seems this Motion has overwhelming support. I, therefore, propose that you call the Mover to respond. view

  • 1 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I rise to oppose this Motion because of the way it is worded. It says that we establish a rugby union and a centre of excellence in every region. As far as I am concerned, this is a duplication of a Motion that was brought to this House not so long ago and Members debated and passed it. It states the need to establish a sporting academy in every constituency. I therefore feel that this is a duplication of another effort. My opposition to the Motion does not mean that I do not feel ... view
  • 1 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: important thing is to market the sports in every part of this country. Even if you look around, most of the people from the area I come from are not here and it is because they do not understand this sport. So, we need to understand the sport and be part of it, because it is a good sport. Again, we have shortage of sporting facilities in this country. My humble request is that we focus on ensuring that we uplift the standards of the sporting facilities that we have to international levels. We need to have facilities that can ... view
  • 27 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me the opportunity. I will follow your wise advice and try to be as brief as possible. I join my colleagues in thanking the Mover of the Motion. It is a very important Motion. I will not repeat what my colleagues have said. The importance of the NYS cannot be overemphasized. Of course, it creates job opportunities for the youth. I feel happy when I visit Government offices and find youths from the NYS. At the airport, youths from the NYS man the entrances. That is positive. I thank the Government for ... view
  • 27 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: It is not in the public domain and I want the Government to make it public. I have a letter in my email which says that Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announced that it was to recruit security wardens from the NYS. The recruitment took place yesterday and today at Naivasha. My concern is that, as I support the Motion, the process of recruiting the NYS graduates should be as open and as transparent as possible. Yesterday, two young ladies from my county of Isiolo were disqualified from the KAA recruitment because it was purported that they did not have the ... view
  • 20 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: Isiolo CWR, JP): Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this important Motion. I also take this opportunity to congratulate the Mover of this Motion for bringing it at a very timely and important period in the lives of our young people in this country. view
  • 20 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: Sports is built as a universal language that brings people together no matter their background, religious belief or economic status. Sports academies challenge students not only to develop their athletic skills but also develop their personal identity, self-esteem, character and team spirit. view
  • 20 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: The benefit of a sports academy cannot be overemphasized. We have so many youth who are talented. Unfortunately, they have nowhere to nurture their talents. I represent Isiolo County and in the last three years we have had youth who joined serious leagues outside the country. We even have a young boy that was trained to join Liverpool. It may not sound true but it is the truth. So, given those opportunities, I am sure we will have so many. We happen to be the cousins from Ethiopia and we have so many athletes who can run. Unfortunately, they have ... view
  • 20 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I hope you will give me the one minute that was taken away from me. I was talking about the many benefits of sports academies. We have the health benefits. Over the past 20 years, many studies have looked at the correlation between the rising rate of obesity and the lifestyle diseases due to lack of physical activities, especially among the young generation. With the establishment of sports academies, it will improve. view
