  • 19 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker, for the opportunity to contribute to this noble Bill. I stand to support it. view
  • 19 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: First, I want to appreciate and thank hon. Sakaja for thinking in a very positive way about the needs of the youth. This is one of the best Bills in my view, which is going to address the concerns of the young people. As a young leader from western Kenya, I clearly understand and appreciate the challenges of the youth and this Bill will address them in a very effective way. view
  • 19 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Yesterday, we were able to pass the Uwezo Fund Regulations and this money will be used to help the youth address their concerns. Having been a banker before I joined politics, I can clearly tell you that the cost of borrowing money from the bank is quite high. Uwezo Fund will come in handy in addressing this concern and with this Bill now, we should be able to address the challenges of the youth. We all know that it is not possible to get employment for everybody in the country. Not everybody can be employed. If we can get a ... view
  • 19 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: I want to raise a little concern about the cut off age we have put for the youth; that is between18 to 35 years, in my view, people who are below 40 years should be considered youths. If it is possible, we can expand the age from 35 to 40 years so that we can be able to get a bigger catchment of the youth we are addressing. I am aware that most of my age mates from the university are still not employed and are below 39 years. If we lock them out from the Uwezo Fund and they ... view
  • 19 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: As my colleagues have said and I do not want to repeat, I support this Bill but with that small amendment of increasing the age bracket from 35 to 40 years. If we do that, we will address the concern that is affecting many Kenyans. Thank you, Deputy Speaker for this opportunity and I wish this country God’s blessings. view
  • 13 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I am hon. Richard Nyagaka Tongi. I rise today before this honourable House humbled by the arduous responsibility placed upon me by the democratic people of Nyaribari Chache who I have just swore to serve diligently, faithfully and honestly. I am greatly thankful to them for giving me the opportunity to serve them in this capacity which gratitude can only manifest itself in my service to them. First, let me thank God who has given me the opportunity and the strength and the tenacity to be here today. With the words of a high school chemistry teacher resonating ... view
  • 13 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: constituency of Nyaribari Chache. Hence I believe that if all of us clean the front of our houses, the entire world would be a very clean environment to live in. Concerning the youth, there are various challenges that bedevil the youth, including unemployment which has given rise to insecurity, alcoholism, and family abandonment. Poor representation of challenges facing the youth has led to a misconception by the youth that they are not heard or represented or understood by the Government. Projects like the Uwezo Fund, the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) and Kazi kwa Vijana (KKV) Programmes are yet to ... view
  • 13 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: tap into tourism, support housing projects to ensure that each and every citizen in the constituency has an affordable roof over their heads and also exploit the constituency’s rich culture, beautiful land and breathtaking resources. My plan remains that the full potential of Nyaribari Chache Constituency should be exploited. It is important to mention at this point that I am the Member of Parliament representing the larger Kisii Town which is cosmopolitan and, therefore, there will be need to support and get every support that I can get to ensure that people there live in harmony and that they support ... view
