  • 8 Oct 2024 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I do not wish to respond to the issues that I heard this morning and that are outside the Motion. I want to confirm that I have tremendous respect for Kenyan women, and I have never disrespected them. What has happened is that as politicians, there is always propaganda to undermine somebody. I call upon anybody with evidence that I have ever disrespected that person to come out and provide that evidence. I heard my very great friend, Hon. Faith Gitau, say that I disrespect women. Many times, I have been to Nyandarua. I have referred to her ... view
  • 8 Oct 2024 in National Assembly: As I wind up, I want to appeal to this honourable House to consider the allegations against me by the Mover of the Motion and weigh them against the attached evidence in my defence, and the videos that I have played in this House. Exercise your minds and your discretion. Search your conscience and decide whether Rigathi Gachagua is guilty of any of these allegations, or if he is undergoing a political process. If you are so persuaded and you search your conscience without any intimidation, coercion or inducement, and you think that it is the right thing to do, ... view

  • 27 Apr 2022 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I want to send my condolences to the family of the late Mzee Mwai Kibaki—a great man, a visionary leader, a brilliant economist, a democrat par excellence and the best President ever in our five-decade history. Mwai Kibaki hailed from Nyeri, the land of milk and honey; the land of the courageous and brave; the land of Dedan Kimathi and Prof Wangari Maathai. He has done us proud. Mwai Kibaki presided over unprecedented economic development that changed peoples’ lives. By the time he handed over power in 2013, he left Kenyans a happy lot. Everybody had ... view

  • 29 Apr 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I rise to speak on behalf of the great people of Mathira Constituency who are my employers and who inform my thinking on a day-to-day basis in whatever I say in this House. We are in unprecedented times. As we speak here about constitutional amendments, there are many Kenyans who have gone without food; there are many Kenyans without masks; there are many Kenyans who do not know where they will get the next meal; there are many Kenyans staring at death not because of COVID-19, but because of hunger; and, there are many Kenyans who ... view
  • 29 Apr 2021 in National Assembly: The Kenyans from my constituency are telling me that they would have wanted us to have a Special Sitting to discuss how they will be fed, how they will pay rent, about their lives and how they can stay away from death. Those Kenyans are of the view that, in terms of priority, any money available to this country should be applied to them so that they can get vaccinated. That way, they will be protected from possible death. They will have an opportunity to live on and look after their children and even educate them. It is for that ... view
  • 29 Apr 2021 in National Assembly: Secondly, I heard the Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs talk very passionately about Wanjiku. He talked about her rights, needs and powers. He has been too busy with this Report that he has not had time to travel to the countryside. Had he gone to Murang’a where he comes from, he would have been told that the name of the lady had been changed from Wanjiku to Wagio. Wagio, Hon. Speaker, is a lady who is overburdened and cannot take an extra burden anymore. She cannot be Wanjiku anymore! She is Wagio. That Wagio does ... view
