  • 18 Jun 2015 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, because she has been in this banking sector, issues of conflict of interest may arise. I believe she will resign from some of these financial institutions so that issues of conflict of interest may not arise. Otherwise, I believe the people we have been vetted are highly qualified and will manage the CBK in a proper manner. Thank you. view
  • 29 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker for this opportunity to support this Bill. This is a very great Bill and I thank the Mover for initiating it. It has come at the right time especially because of the issues it is trying to address, the issue of representation of the students in the HELB and the issues dealing with awarding loans to the minors. These are critical issues which need to be addressed. First of all and as a House, we need to address the issue of the funding of HELB. Currently, the funds that we give to HELB are quite ... view

  • 22 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I want to note that poverty in this country is on the increase. A large section of the society is facing tough situations when it comes to financial issues. Once this Bill becomes law, I believe registration expenses for Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) which is about Kshs900 and for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) which is around Kshs5,000 and which many households may not afford will be dropped. I believe that will ease the burden on the parents. So, this Bill is well intended. I must note education is a basic ... view

  • 22 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: On the issue of infrastructure in our schools, many are in pathetic situation. We are grateful that we have the Constituencies Development Fund (CDF) which is improving the state of classrooms, but it is yet to address the pathetic conditions in our classrooms. view

  • 22 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: The amount of money that is allocated to Constituencies Development Fund (CDF) to take care of the infrastructure in schools needs to be adjusted upwards. On the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) front, I believe the funding to this body needs to be adjusted accordingly so that examiners, invigilators and supervisors can be well taken care of. I know, for example, examiners are paid an out of pocket allowance of Kshs100 only. This is too low and needs to be addressed. Teachers, as professionals need to be treated, just like other professionals. I know in the current Government certain professionals ... view
