Rose Nyamunga Ogendo

A niece of the late Robert Ouko, she was interested in politics in 1992. She recalls how she realized where her fate was in 1990s, when she followed her family discussions on political developments in the country. She used to follow keenly political activists like Paul Muite and James Orengo since she had an interest in people’s rights and justice. She gained experience in developing a solid manifesto and campaign structure during the campaigns of her husband Eric Nyamunga, former Nyando MP. In her manifesto, she promised economic empowerment for the youth and women, adult education for women, mentorship for girls and sports opportunities in the county.

  • 15 Jul 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. This is one Bill that I have been waiting for, for a very long time. The reason why I have been looking forward to having this Bill is because we have done a lot of disservice to our country. For a long time, we have believed as a people or a nation that somebody must get a degree for them to be known to have gone to school or to be educated. We have spent a lot of money as Kenyans moreso in the 1980s, 1990s and I think up ... view

  • 15 Jul 2021 in Senate: We had an opportunity to be in Dubai, and Madam Deputy Speaker, you were also there. What we discovered is that even if we took our students from here to go and work in Dubai or any other country outside this country, our qualifications from technical colleges are not up to standard. They will still have to look for another sub-college to educate our students who are already educated. Just like if we educate our doctors and teachers, they may not be able to compete with other nations. However, we should work on our standards. During that time, we also ... view
  • 15 Jul 2021 in Senate: Madam Deputy Speaker, every time I step in my home in the village, I will definitely need a plumber, a mason or an electrician. There is no day, I will go over the weekend and not miss to look for one of them. However, in my village, I will be only be looking for three people. There is one plumber, one electrician and one mason. This is because many of our students do not want to be trained. They think that it is not good enough for them yet these three people I have mentioned have homes which they run, ... view

  • 15 Jul 2021 in Senate: We must lay emphasis and make sure that we make them believe that these technical colleges are good for them. We should develop them, standardize them, and make sure that they are properly run and financed. We can have them, but they are not financed or the infrastructure is not up to standard. I have given my own example. If you go to Ahero or Boya, the infrastructure is not good. However, right now, the local people have seen the benefit. If they cannot afford a boarding school or college, they take their child next door. From there, they have ... view
  • 15 Jul 2021 in Senate: Hon. Senators, I just want to plead with you. If you do not need to take the 20 minutes, you can always donate because we have Members who have been sitting here the whole afternoon with an intention of making a contribution to this Bill. We should be fair in that direction. Sen. Mutula Kilonzo Jnr., proceed. view
