Rose Nyamunga Ogendo

A niece of the late Robert Ouko, she was interested in politics in 1992. She recalls how she realized where her fate was in 1990s, when she followed her family discussions on political developments in the country. She used to follow keenly political activists like Paul Muite and James Orengo since she had an interest in people’s rights and justice. She gained experience in developing a solid manifesto and campaign structure during the campaigns of her husband Eric Nyamunga, former Nyando MP. In her manifesto, she promised economic empowerment for the youth and women, adult education for women, mentorship for girls and sports opportunities in the county.

  • 10 Nov 2020 in Senate: Madam Deputy Speaker, I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.47(1) to make a Statement on an issue of countywide concern, namely, cases of murder, abduction and mysterious disappearance of people in Kisumu County. In the recent weeks, cases of murder, abductions and mysterious disappearance have risen to worrying levels. Families have been left distraught and these agents of impunity have left many children without parents. The fundamental right to life for every Kenyan, as enshrined in the Constitution, cannot be overemphasized. The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 10 Nov 2020 in Senate: The Constitution 2010 is globally celebrated because of the Bill of Rights, which is believed to be progressive. However, if Kenyans will continue to live in fear in their own land, then this Government has failed big time in its cardinal responsibility of protecting the lives of its citizens. Madam Deputy Speaker, some of the people whose disappearance and eventual murder have been reported, include Thomas Ochieng who had an eatery in Kisumu. He had left work to meet a person who had called him on phone about two weeks ago. He was optimistic that he would strike a business ... view
  • 10 Nov 2020 in Senate: In August, the body of a teacher who went missing a few weeks after she was interdicted was found dumped by the roadside at Tido, in Kisumu East. As concerns grow over mysterious deaths, several families are also struggling to find their kin who have gone missing. In Nyamasaria, the family of Enock Odhiambo, a primary school teacher, is yet to find him and his driver, more than a month after they left home to attend a burial in Migori. His car was found abandoned a few metres from Sondu, Nyakach Sub-County. Madam Deputy Speaker, I urge you to task ... view
  • 4 Nov 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for giving me an opportunity to add a few comments to the Statement by Sen. Malalah. It is very unfortunate that three weeks ago, I lost a very dear friend in Nyando. This lady went to a hospital in Kakamega - I do not know which one - she was operated on by the late Dr. Alushula. The lady had a problem with her hip bone and a replacement was made, which was very expensive. A week after she was dead and buried, the same doctor also passed on. As much as we want ... view
  • 4 Nov 2020 in Senate: to let our people know that COVID-19 is here. It has not gone. Even if we gave the hospitals the best facilities, we do not take ourselves to the hospital when we are sick. This should not be a blame game, but a matter of responsibility for every one of us. COVID-19 is real, it is killing people, it is going to kill people, and it is very unfortunate. Therefore, as we deliberate on this issue, we should also be doing soul searching to find out the real cause of the spread of COVID-19 in this nation. It is not ... view
